10 Arrests, 10 Addresses, 13 Jobs, and a CHL Application

I realize this is probably beating a dead horse but, I'm looking for insight and opinion.

I am a natural born Texan, over 21, over 6 months back in state, been liscenced in 3 other states but, I am going through the Texas process.

I have been arrested 10 times. Not since 2004.

6 times for tickets when younger ( idiot I know ).
1 DWI conviction in 1998.
1 unlawful carry back in 2004. Dismissed.
2 times for Ag Assault. One in 1994 one in 2004 both dismissed.

We have had to move out of state for my wife's job an career. So, I have had 10 addressess since 2003.

Also 13 jobs since 2003.

I stated and listed all of this info and all the facts on my application.

What are the odds on my license being processed and issued?

I think if you want to be taken seriously and that this is not another fishing expedition maybe you should change your screen name! Kinda gives you away

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but some more details are needed if you want to gain some insight from us on your particular case.
sandbagger wrote:been liscenced in 3 other states but, I am going through the Texas process.
Which states? Why do you need a Texas license specifically?
sandbagger wrote:I stated and listed all of this info and all the facts on my application.

You've stated that you've at least started to fill out the application. Have you submitted it and paid the fee?

If you've submitted it, then...
Odds of being processed - 100% (you paid the fee after all, so they are going to process/review it)
Odds of license issued - Time will tell. No need for our opinion. We aren't the ones deciding. The state of Texas is. They'll let you know in a month or so.

EDIT: Dear other established members, I think this is a fishing expedition, while it's possible to be true, it is a highly-unlikely case. Should I just delete this post to avoid further time wasted? PM me to avoid bumping this thread. Thanks :tiphat:

Texas is a SHALL ISSUE state, as long as you meet the criteria you will recieve your license.

what is the grade of DWI conviction, A felony?
Also, I am very worried about your arrest for Agg. Assault, 2 times. That means you attacked with a weapon. Very bad indeed and with CHL and gun, you do not want to be another Zimmerman.

A DWI...

And UNlawful carry....

2 Aggravated assualts....

I know it's been a while, 2004, but, but, might not make it across my desk.
Good Luck, hope you've matured and moved on.

Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida. I'm back to Texas full time and a Texas homeowner. I feel I need it to avoid any issues.

DWI was a Misdemeanor.

And I've never understood how everyone jumps on a fishing or troll campaign over a posted question. I researched to find the answers, called DPS, asked my CHL instructor and none of those sources answered my question. I do know that only time will tell with the state but, hoped someone on here might have some insight.

Against my better judgment because my Troll Sniffer is twitchin', I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond.

The three arrests with dismissals are meaningless as far as CHL eligibility is concerned. Convictions or deferred adjudications are all that count. You should expect the DPS to ask you for certified copies of the court records showing dismissal.

A single DWI from 14 years ago is not a disqualifier.

What do you mean "arrested" 6 times for tickets? I had speeding tickets, red lights, even reckless operation, when I was younger and all of those were simply a ticket handed to me for my signature at the side of the road. I was never "arrested". Care to clarify?

The number of addresses and jobs seems to be immaterial to me. You need to list them, but I am not aware of anything justifying their use as a criteria for denying a shall issue license.

It's possible he was arrested for Failure to Appear for the tickets.

The reference for tickects means unpaid tickets that turned into warrants for traffic tickets.

I have a question or two, and I'm sure others do as well. How well do you know yourself? Can you say without a doubt you will never drive drunk with a gun? How bout anger issues? Thats a recipe for disaster when a gun is handy. 2004 just doesn't seem so long ago to me. Ten times seems habitual to me. Please don't take offense to my questions or comments, but this is a forum of upstanding people who not always, but usually agree on many issues. The state has the final say-so.

Ag Assault # 1 was @ 19 yes old (20 years ago). Started out as a fist fight and went downhill from there. The small town PD that showed up arrested both of us. When they got all the facts and they matched they released us both and later dismissed the case from both of us.

Ag Assault # 2 was 8 years ago. Wrong place at the wrong time. I had been out celebrating with a group of friends that after a wreck I had transistioned from crutches to a cane. I was leaving a resturaunt with several friends that are LEO's and at a bar next door a fight spilled out into the mutual parking lot. It was like a movie, 10+ people fighting and escalating. It turned into total mayhem and at some point everyone in the parking lot was threatened or attacked. Long story short the police arrived in mass and arrested everyone. My case was dismissed finally with the help of several LEO's verifying I was not involved and only trying to make it to my car.

DWI in my early 20s no excuse. Learned my lesson do not drink often or much and never if I'm driving. Not only do I have everyone else and myself to consider but, #1 I have my family to take care of.

Arrests for tickets. Just you young and stupid in a small Texas town.

OK so it's been 8 years since your last arrest, but it was 12 years since the 1st assault. Traffic tickets in between, correct?

Having been arrested once, under laughable circumstances, and when I showed up on the appointed date for court they didn't even have my name, more than 40 years ago, and dutifully reported on my CHL app, I believe only convictions are supposed to count against you in the end.

You do have to realize that historically when someone comes on this forum and presents such a question in that manner, they are usually trolls, therefore . . .

Otherwise, welcome, and good luck.

The multiple addresses should not be a problem, as long as there are no gaps or otherwise unaccounted for time. My wife didn't put down "unemployed" in her app, for the several years between the time she quit her job when we got married and when she took a job after her kid became a teenager. DPS bounced the app wanting her to account for that time in her employment history.
