Man, I forgot how good that band was. Great harmonies & driving beat. I've discovered that virtually all the music I liked back then had an actual musical line with fairly complicated harmonies. You know, real musicians. Bands that today probably would never see the light of day in popular music.

Now what I really wanna know is what idiot thought those costumes were appropriate for a man to wear??

Three Dog Night - - - boy does that take me back! "Eli's Comin'!" was released as a single in October 1969.

In 1969 I met my first wife. In 1964 I decided the Bleatles were ruining Rock 'n' Roll and turned to country, got really into square dancing and found most of my string of girlfriends at like minded juke joints and dance halls. In April, and then October I met my buddy's sister, and we became engaged on Halloween. I still carry the Yahtzee scorecard on which we wrote a little contract to get married the following My 9th. The marriage lasted 23 years until she passed away from cancer. I still have the October 1969 release copy of "Since I Met You Baby" by Sonny James, that a radio DJ buddy of mine gave me, and that I gave to her as an engagement gift.

She was not "country" per se, she was a classically trained pianist and Bach became a favorite composer of mine, while she found an interest in country.

Except for incidental contact, I don't think I ever heard "Eli's Coming" or any of the other RnR stuff in the 60s and forward, and once, in a conversation with my wife's classmate at SUNY music department, and he mentioned Stevie Nicks, and I asked "Who's he?"

Since her death I have hooked up with and married my high school sweetheart, who is very Rock n Roll, and have been introducing her to "real" country, not that ersatz crud they serve up these days, while she has introduced me to classic RnR.

I now know who Stevie Nicks is, anyway.

I used to be a hardcore classic rock fan, but as I have gotten older, my tastes have become a little more refined (for lack of a better expression). I'll still listen to the class rock radio staples, but as I've gotten older I have found myself enjoying the more obscure stuff. Maybe not the big radio hits, but more of the unknown stuff. A lot of the garage band stuff from the 60's (The E-Types, The Gestures, Amboy Dukes, etc.).

...in the late 90s, I was working for a FW carpet company...the boss' stepson was my trainer...and the radio in the truck was always on...he was trying to impress me that, though young enough to be my son, he was really into music from my era...one day he was telling me about one of his favorite songs...I asked him if he knew who sang it and he looked at me smugly, and proudly exclaimed "Well, of course I do...Three Bad Dogs!!!" I almost wet myself laughing at him...never let him forget it...

I don't remember it, but the Lyme and Cybelle video reminds me of something that would have been on the Monkees TV show. I just looked it up on Wiki and Stephen lyme was Warren Zevon!

I was never much of a Three Dog Night fan even though I was in college during the period of their popularity.
