I got myself the new (to me!) Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II a couple of weeks ago. Salty1 made me a deal I didn't want to let pass on a unit with everything I wanted in a Kimber.

The wife and oldest grandson went to Great Southwest Range to try it out and so the wife could practice with her Kahr CW9.

We ran about 175 rounds through the Kimber, everyone taking a few turns at shooting and reloading mags for the others. The Kimber ran flawlessly! I had several different brands of SD rounds that were getting old, so we shot that up first. Then, I got out a box of 50 Remington FMJ that ran fine, the a box of 100 WWB that ran fine also.

Salty1, just so you know, whatever you did to the mag that wasn't locking the slide open when empty worked. I lost track of the mags used, but all 3 locked the slide back when empty.

I love the light trigger after the long trigger pulls of my PT145 and the wife's CW9. It was very accurate also! The first 8 shots I ran through were in the X ring (using the laser!)! I turned the laser off and tried a different spot and put the next 7 into a 3" circle. I've never been able to do that with any of my other pistols.

When my wife first saw the Kimber, she just shrugged her shoulders. Then later she picked it up and her eyes lit up and said "I may need one of these!" Then I showed her the laser. It seems that whenever I get a new gun, she goes shopping. And then also wants a new gun.

You see, buying a new gun for myself isn't the only expense incurred. In addition to her shopping, I ordered a new CBST to carry the Kimber in, as well as a couple of their belts.

TAM, I'm glad I finally got myself a 1911! And I'm sure glad I waited until I could get Kimber! And it sure is a good lookng gun!

I had been warned about cleaning a 1911 when you aren't used to doing it. It turned out cleaning the Kimber was very similar to cleaning the Taurus or Kahr, other than the spring tool (paper clip). I believe that the Kimber could be cleaned easily enough without the paper clip. I even remembered to make sure the "loop" was in the correct position before putting everything back together. A pretty simple operation, even for the first time!

I'm so happy with my new toy I could ... well, you know!

Just try to avoid putting an "idiot scratch" on it when dissassembling/reassembling!

I never felt 1911s were too much of a challenge to take apart/put together.

My Glock is ridiculously easy to field strip, as is my AK.

I don't even want to think about the 22/45 though.

OK Nova, what is the idiot scratch? That is what I was afraid of doing, but I made it through unscathed!

My 1911 looks a lot worse than this one. Bought it used and it already had a slight mark so I haven't been too worried about it. It's not a decorative piece.

Its the mark left by edge of slide release when the person who assembles the gun pushes it down along the frame while fighting the plunger spring.

And yes, it looks like the picture posted above.

I've managed to avoid it...so far!

Mike, I am thrilled you like the gun and the mag fix worked. I loved the gun, it is the arthritis that is developing in my hands that did not enjoy it. It is always a pleasure to sell to a true gentleman at a fair price and read about their enjoyment. Now be careful about letting the wife shhot it too much or you may be looking for another one when she puts her stamp of ownership on it. maybe you can be pro-active and check out the EMP's very much equal to the Kimbers, I like mine in 9mm as much as the Kimber (without the pain) and have one in 40 here for another forum member, guess I should have told him it arrived before posting....... .

Just a word of advice. Don't fire a Glock or you will throw that Kimber in the garbage.

Congrats on the Kimber! Welcome to the Klub.

The Taurus is an OK gun, but there's no comparison to the 1911.

Don't worry about the idiot scratch too much. Just take your time when snapping the slide stop lever back in and you'll be fine.
