I'm looking for a 30-40 rifle safe, I need a good brand. One that has good wall gauge (lower than 10) external hinges and a programmable digital lock. I've got a $2k budget. Anyone have any good recommendations?

Check costco.com they had great sale of $200 of $1000 wide-body safe.

I would never buy a safe from costco. The thickest wall gauge safe they offer is 10ga. A sawzall can cut through that like butter.

Hit your nearest Cabelas, I saw a $2400 safe that was monster of safe. Too big to get into my house. Maybe It can stay in the Garage. It was $1000 lb safe

I recommend to ALWAYS buy bigger than you think you need!

Fast access, customizable.

I would rather have a 2 stage biometric and a digital pad, but don't think those exist yet.

Can't store a mossberg in a desk safe...

You are going to be hard pressed to find a gun safe that holds 30-40 rifles that has a steel thickness of 10 gauge or thicker for 2k.
The only options at that price is used,or import Chinese of unknown quality,or up the price.
In late 2009 I bought an American made American Security BF 66x36 and paid $2299.00 before tax and installation through Carters Country in Houston which smoked every other safe dealers price(including internet) on this premium safe.
Amsec has had price increases since then(what safe company has not) but what you get with this safe is double steel walls,wich has an outer wall of 1/8 inch steel and the inner wall of 1/16 inch steel backed up by two inches of cast concrete fire and burglary insulation on all sides including the top and a true half inch thick plate steel door back by another steel encased one inch cast concrete fire insulation.
Research gun safes heavily before buying.

I went into a local locksmith store and they had american security safes there. I was really impressed with them, and they seem to have all the features I'm looking for. I'm a little hesitant on the double walled 10ga steel sides, but I do like how heavy the front plate is, and the options to get a digi keypad or even biometrics to access the safe.

I think they might get my business if they can sweeten the deal a bit for me on installation.

A BIG +1 on the AMSEC. I got one last year from Carters as well. It was the end of year clearance, you can save that way. had them send it out, installed and it was great. I got the BF series as well, but a bit shallower because it had to go through a closet door which is exactly what this model was built for to get in. Had almost an 1/8 of an inch to spare when we slid it is. 1/2" steel from and the metal sides, fire concrete etc as noted. Good ratings in tests I have read. And yes their prices beat everone's both direct and online. I went with the dial though because the electronics and any ones safe is a problem at some time. The dial works fast, smooth and easy. Add in a Light My Safe light kit and it works great.

I'll +1 this too. Just got a new AMSEC about a month ago and I'm still amazed at the quality of their line vs. their competitors. Not only is the safe built better (IMHO) but the inside receives more attention as well.

Amsecs are nice, but the ones I've looked out are a bit pricey. The BF series you won't find for $2k. At least, not in any places I've seen.
