An awesome post...

Recently I was eating at a local Italian restaurant and the waitress handed a woman at the table next to me a container for her leftovers.
Wait. Let me preface this by saying that if you look up the word “awesome” in the dictionary, the first(or second-depending on the dictionary) definition you’ll see is this: “Inspires awe.” Inspires awe....
Landing on the moon. I’d say that inspires awe.
Beethoven composing his 9th Symphony while deaf. That would count as awe inspiring for sure.
Michelangelo lying on his back that whole time to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Perfect example!
Now, I bring this up because when the woman got her little container for her leftovers, she said this: “This is awesome.”
Yes, that little leftover box “inspired awe” in that woman.
What I can only assume from her use of the English language is that when she opened it, she saw on the underside of the lid one obvious thing:
A painting by Michelangelo. Which he created while lying on his back in the container.
Hey, I did say it was an Italian restaurant....

A customer said awesome upon receiving a doggie bag. Not quite sure what's so interesting about that.

He didn't say it was interesting; he said is was 'inspiring'.

I stand corrected.

However, I don't get it either. Must have been some REALLY good Italian food.

Speaking of Italian restaurants, why is it that so many of them are owned and run by Albanians? Has anyone else noticed that? I know of the relative geographical proximity between Italy and Albania, but that doesn't explain it. There are other countries just as close. Just wondering out loud here...

The same reason good burger joints are run by Greeks.

The one in our town called Amore's Pizza & Pasta is owned by an Albanian. I asked him how he got into the restaurant business and he gave me a good long story about when the country turned communist in he mid-1940's when he was a young teen he made it to Italy on foot, getting shot in the leg, (he showed me the scar), and attacked by a guard's dog on the way. He traveled at night and hid during the day. He said he knew he finally made it to Italy when he topped a hill and saw crosses everywhere. He ended up working in an Italian restaurant owned by a nice lady. She sort of adopted him and and many years later they took a vacation to the US and he decided to stay.
Not sure how much is true...that's a long way to hoof it at a young age alone. He never did explain how he ended up in our small town, though. I didn't think to ask since I was still thinking about him getting shot.

Who cares, as long as he makes good pasta and pizza!

Wow, that's quite a story. I've got a feeling about 95% of it is pure cow waste though

Made it to Italy on foot?

And if he took a vacation and "stayed," he probably wouldn't be sharing that story with strangers as that makes him an illegal immigrant. Still a hilarious story though. I wonder if he came up with that on the spot or if he has it ready for such occasions.
BTW, this thread was about the awesomness of doggie bags, so I wouldn't worry about hijacking it.

Because no one goes out for a nice romantic dinner at an Albanian restaurant. What do Albanians eat, anyways?

I will admit, I don't look at the wife and say "Honey, I'm feeling like Albanian food tonight. Where do you want to go?"
Then again, if I did say that I am sure she would say 'Awesome! Let's go!'
