Can anyone tell me, weather-wise what is a good time to travel to New Orleans between May and Sept?

Any recommendations on places to stay in Baton Rouge (we'll stop there for a night on the way out and
the way back).

I already have a hotel picked out (groupon) in New Orleans.

There is no good time to be there in the summer. It's hot and humid and sticky and miserable.

So, referencing the timeline above, you say May - Septermber IS the best time to go!

Why stop in BR when you're only an hour and a half from your destination?

Anyways... The Drury and the Hyatt Place are nice.. Both near the mall.

IMO, May is better than September. June through August is extra-icky.

Last weekend in April and first weekend in May is Jazz Fest... Great lineup this year.

RoyGBiv is correct that May is better than September.

There really is no breeze when you're walking down town in NO. So it's hot and miserable. But dress accordingly and enjoy the local scenery. There's anything you ever wanted to see in NO and then some.

We lived just outside of Baton Rouge for 3 years and loved the area. After Katrina and Rita it became a place we didn't want to raise our kids. We love going back for visits though.

When in NO, make sure you eat at Mama's, Rene's and Acme. If I had to choose one of those places though, I'd choose Rene's because the food is fantastic and it has a sentimental value for my wife and I.

If you're easily offended, stay away from Bourbon street after dark. If not, make sure to go to Bourbon street after dark.

Canal has some great places to look and shop.

In BR, eat at Boutin's, In Port Allen eat at Bergeron's, and on your way back stop at Best Stop in Scott and pick me up as much Boudin , Andoulle and Gater meat as you can manage to get in your vehicle.

Don't forget the Cracklin's

You of course are correct about Mother's.

There are dozens of little hole in the wall places I could recommend between Lafayette and Ne Orleans for fantastic food. And some of the best meals I ever had in LA were in private homes (or sitting in their back yard with a beer and a boiling pot of water)

Cajuns are some of the most fun loving people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Been through '10 from Orange to NO/ New Iberia many a time. Lots of off the highway joints to explore. If they're operating out of a mobile home and the parking lot's full don't be afraid to stop!

Do I have to be concerned about hotels being posted (I gather there is no 30.06 equivalent and any old sign will do...) ?
