I'm at a loss to understand where a Pistol fit into the ceremony. It's been a few years since I was raised, but at no time was there a pistol used.

IIRC, this particular lodge was doing something not prescribed in the normal ritual. They were going to do something to startle the man by firing a gun at him and then hitting something next to his head to make him think a bullet hit that. However, if that where the case then why were they even pointing the gun at the man and I thought he was supposed to be blindfolded anyway. If he were blindfolded it wouldn't matter which way the gun was pointed. Don't point a gun at someone unless you intend on killing them. Sorry, "stop" them. I couldn't be an actor. I don't think I would be able to point a gun at someone in a movie.

I recall another case where live ammo was fired during an "Old West" reenactment. IIRC the shooter was just sentenced.

Yeah, this is the one I was remembering. Happened back in 2004 and the shooter was 76 years old then. He had no intent to harm the man and had his permit since 1951 in New York. Even at 76 I'm not surprised at the sentence and even less so if the sentence was handed down just recently.

Even shooting blanks is dangerous. Some years ago a very handsome actor, whose name I have forgotten, was killed by blanks fired from a gun at his head, clowning around on the set or something.

While filming "The Crow" Brandon Lee was killed by a dummy bullet that was lodged in a pistol being shot into his abdomen by a blank that was subsequntly loaded.

When the scene did not play as the director wanted it to play in the master shot, there was a delay in filming. I've been on the receiving end of a blank before at 2 yards pointed at my chest. At that distance, it can knock you off balance if you aren't expecting it.

Never heard of such during a masonic ceremony....there are no guns allowed in lodge, at least in Texas anyway.
