Prosecutor files charges in deadly home invasion
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
The terrified homeowner was on the ground with a gun pressed to her head. She managed to shoot the burglar.
Dominique D. Richardson, 20, faces the murder charge because Missouri law allows accused accomplices to be charged with murder when a death occurs during the commission of a felony.
The homeowner acted in self-defense and did not face any charges, authorities say.

From the article
Jaqures' 19-year-old brother told Fox 6 that Jaqures was in the front yard of their home Friday night with some friends and told his family they were going to the store. The brother says Jaqures never came home.
Must have been going to get Skittles and an iced tea.
What a waste.

...for many years I've read of homeowners and business owners of all ages robbed, raped, and killed by criminals...now, across the country, we're reading more and more of citizens fighting back and stopping the threat...it's great news and long overdue...no matter the age, race, or gender of the criminals...the "system" wasn't able to slow the flood of violence...now that the public is standing up to evil , it may reduce the frequency of occurance...once "they" decide that "WE" really do mean business...

Stanfield had not gotten far enough into the investigation to determine if the homeowner's gun had been registered or if he was allowed to have a firearm.
This line from the above story really rubs me the wrong way.

Its California. Even if the homeowner TECHNICALLY has the right to defend themselves within the home, the system out there will go to great lengths to get back at the homeowner for doing so. I have respect for the vast majority of men and women in law enforcement, but I do question the motivation of those who enforce laws such as this sort of thing there in California.

“Couldn’t he have shot him in the leg or Tased him if he was out of control? Why did he have to shoot him in the chest?” Ortiz asked. “You could have stopped it another way.”
Since when do off duty cops in their own homes carry around tazers? Since when are crazy people stopped by a mere flesh wound?

If more parents would work to stop the behavior when their kids are small the cops or victims would not have to shoot them. More often than not the parents are to blame for their childrens behavior. Lack of action has consequences too.

Well, one thing that jumped out at me was the 13 year-old kid was out and about unsupervised at 11:10 pm on a Friday.
Heck, my 16 year-old daughter still isn't allowed out at that time; her curfew is 10:30. When my kids were 13, they had to be home by 9:00 and they still had to be with a friend or neighbor that included adult supervision. No hanging out on the street somewhere unsupervised.

Previously owned guns do not have to be registered. Newly purchased guns must be registered and guns brought in from out of state must be registered.
I suspect this was a reply to a question from a reporter wanting to know such important facts for his story. He probably knew many of his readers would want to know if this vigilante/villain was complying with the letter of the law, so hopefully he could be punished for his violent deeds. To me this would be the case, rather than the police officer saying he was planning to look into it.
As more and more criminals are shot, injured or killed (such as the 13 year old boy in Alabama) some people will want a change in the law to not allow citizen's to defend themselves, as the current law is leading to punishment with out trial. Plus the criminals are not being given the chance to rehabilitate themselves into productive citizens.

If more parents would be parents, fewer teens would be criminals.
