Perhaps a little off-topic, but does anyone know what the long DD number means on the bottom of the new Texas drivers license?

It appears on Canadian licenses as well.

I had a gentleman tell me if you had that number and needed to get a replacement drivers license
(because your original was lost) you can fill in the application online.
That is what I was told, never have had to find out if true.

Thanks all--here's the answer from a friend who works for a law firm:
"According to the DPS website, it is a DPS audit number. It is required when logging into the online system to change your address or renew the license. The old license had a smaller audit number vertical along the photo."
Mystery solved.

The audit number can also be used to tell if that copy is your latest driver's license.

The old code had the issued date in it. Does the new one?
