Ok so I have both a 1911 compact and a sigma 40ve both are very easy to carry but I dont know which one I should carry because God forbid I ever have to use one of them (I hope i never have to) but i dont want to have to replace it (money doesnt grow on trees) pluss the goal is to NEVER need to use your carry weapon.

I'd go with whichever one is more reliable and you're more accurate with.

...the amount of hesitation brought about by worrying if the gun will be tied up in the legal system after a shooting might indicate that the best lubricant for that 1911 might be Vaseline...liberally applied to all outer surfaces...

You need to rethink this.

The reason we choose to carry isn't so we never have to use it, but to protect our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

It may seem silly, but mindset does matter. If you go around with the idea that your goal is "never use the gun", you may not draw when you really need to and by the time you shift your mindset from "never use the gun" to "oh my gosh, I need to use this gun right the the heck now because I'm in danger", you may have already lost.

Your mindset should be "If my life or my loved ones lives are put in danger, I'm glad I carry this gun so I can protect us" (or something similar that works for you).

Yes, deescalation and deterrence are very important and with the proper use of both you should hopefully never need the gun. That being said, I really think the mindset of "my goal is to never use it" is dangerous.

Just my .02, take it or leave it.

I guess the part we're I say God forbid means nothing eh? the number 1 goal is to never ever ever use it, you should always talk down the situation and if that doesnt work pepper spray and handcuffs are your friend. i was just fishing for an opinion and seeing how many people would attack the .40

...I knew what you meant, and this old .45 fan was just making a point in a jerky way...if/when/and yes, God forbid, you ever get into a situation where the gun is needed...you'll have MUCH more value at stake than any firearm...get that settled ahead of time so it doesn't slow you down one fraction of a second...(and I did good not to attack your .40, din't I?!!!)

...street-wise criminals know if you're prepared to use your gun or not...and will and have taken a gun away from someone who hesitated...making our minds up ahead of time and knowing the laws ahead of time go towards a successful outcome...

No sir you did not attack anything at all, and I was traind by a police officer so my mentality is to use my words first and if that doesnt work than pepper spray, and yeah if it came down to my family and their lives i belive your right that their safty and my own would be the only thing on my mind.

I hate striker pistols with a passion but I will say that I have had several Sigma 9mms and they are completely reliable. The trigger pull is horrendous but an easy fix in about ten minutes. I am not sure why they have a bad rap. I own enough 1911s to know that (cover your eyes AndyC and forgive me) they can be finicky on a whim. If a bad national situation were to happen i would definitely have a hicap Sigma 9mm on me as a backup. But, given the likelihood of not needing it then I would go with a 1911.
