I have a few pairs of cargo pants and it seems that my pistol (FNX-9mm) fits pretty well in the side pocket. Does anybody carry this way? Pros/cons from anybody, please.

I don't have any cargo pants, but I pocket carry in my Wranglers, Dockers and suit pants. Access is obviously not as quick as when I carried IWB, but I keep my hand in my pocket when ever I am in a situation that makes my antenna buzz.

The obvious con is slower access, especially if you button the flaps on the side pockets. Less obvious is banging against your thigh when walking but that varies based on how baggy the pants fit.

I have cargo shorts and do not carry in the pockets. Too loose and would flop around too much. I continue to carry IWB or OWB with a gun belt. When carrying while wearing cargo shorts I'll usually have on sandals and a loose, one or two size too big, button shirt. Some of those shirts have patterns and some don't.

Umm, Kahr CW40, worn-out velcro closure. Took off running after the grand kid, Kahr flies out, bounces off sidewalk into the street. In front of a pickup. Have no idea is they had realized what it was before I grabbed it and stuffed it back into my pocket.

Yeah, but when you don't have a holster yet and the regular pocket aren't big enough, cargo pockets might be the only ticket.

You've succeeded in rediscovering why they make pocket holsters.

Yeah, I may have cargo-pocket-carried my gun before my holster arrived on a few trips to the mailbox and the drive-through, but I never tried to
run with it in there.

This is kind of my situation. Have ordered a Crossbreed SuperTuck but it's at least 3-4 weeks out. I have a Fobus but it's not the greatest conceal holster. It will work but I'm thinking the pockets on my cargo pants are a little better. Of course all this will be a moot point if my holster comes in before my plastic. I am on the manufacture pending stage which means tomorrow should be manufactured and then mailed and from the recent experiences with the mailing stage it could be another 20 or so days before I see my CHL

Well, I did it around the house and on very short excursions outside, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for walking around all day. At least with my shorts, the pockets flop around so much that it's really hard to not thwack things as you walk by, and sooner or later someone's gonna start wondering why there's a big clanging sound and a new dent in the post every time you go through the turnstiles at Fry's.

I do occasionally in a pocket holster, but I prefer IWB for primary, regular front pocket for BUG. Less banging/flopping around.

Why would you want to? It flops around when you walk and you have to work at accessing it. Get a belly band or other elastic carry holster if you don’t like a iwb holster

In the summer I often carry a small .45 or .38 in a good pocket holster like the
Fist K5 in the front pocket of cargo shorts. I prefer the shorts with a deep slash style front pocket. The gun carries very comfortably, doesn't flop around, is well concealed, secure and very easily accessible.
What's not to like?

Same here. I buy my cargo shorts based on the front pocket design. Once while with my daghter and wife shopping for shorts I would stick my hand in the front pocket and either grumble or begin to look for my size. My wife asked me what in the world did I expect to find in those shorts and daughter (bless her heart) looked at her in a "matter of fact" expression and said it has to fit his guns. She knows me!

I tried carrying in the cargo pocket, but just too floppy and bangy. I bought a Mika pocket holster for my Kahr PM9, and it fit beautifully into my left, front pocket. I am right handed, so it is on the left in case my right hand is disabled or busy.
