Police served a bad check warrant on 48-year-old woman in rural Parker County (west of Ft. Worth). They allegedly found a 1-year-old baby in a crib in a room with 58 dogs. The house was reported full of animal waste, and some of the animals were in poor condition, lacking food or water. Two animals were euthanized at the scene.

The suspect is charged with child endangerment. The baby is not her child. The relationship is not explained.

I don't know how people who are not mentally ill get into this condition, but they do—altogether too frequently.

The house didn't get that way in one day. The kid's mother must have known what the situation was. I understand that it's difficult for parents to get reliable child care, but sheesh.

Also note most of the comments on these stories are about the "poor doggies," not the poor baby.

As of Monday five family members including the baby's mother had been arrested on various charges of child endangerment and animal cruelty.

A sad situation for all invovled. :grumble

It's probably not a great idea to visit someone in jail when you have an open warrant.

But then I don't think a lot of great idea were flying around there.
