This defendant had a couple of problems. First she went back into the house after leaving it. While that doesn't completely negate a self defence claim, it tends to undercut it. Second, her warning shot went into a room where there were two children. Violates the rule about knowing your target and what's behind it.

I don't think this sounds racially motivated, but wow, how terrible. The woman basically sacrificed her life for her idiot, self confessed wife beater husband because she decided to fire a warning shot instead of shooting him. Now he's free to continue beating up his 5 baby momma's and she has 20 years with no possibility of parole.

This would be a good case for jury nullification

I'm waiting for all the people that said GZ should have stayed in his car to say she should have stayed in the garage instead of "stalking" him.

I'm waiting for all the people who condemned the OK pharmacist for going back to shoot an armed robber to apply their same lens to this woman and condemn her for going back and firing a shot.

"Under the state's 10-20-life law, a conviction for aggravated assault where a firearm has been discharged carries a minimum and maximum sentence of 20 years without regarding to any extenuating or mitigating circumstances that may be present, such as those in this case," Daniel said
I do NOT like mandatory sentencing laws because I believe they can be mis-applied, though I understand why they became law in the first place. Usually because some situation like a weak-spine judge letting some child molester/rapist off with a slap on the wrist for some "rehabilitation therapy". However, there should ALWAYS be a place for "extenuating circumstances" to count in sentencing. Not saying I condone in the least the woman firing into a room with kids, however.
Brown, the Jacksonville congresswoman, told reporters after the sentencing that the case was a product of "institutional racism."

"She was overcharged by the prosecutor. Period," Brown said. "She never should have been charged."

Brown has been more complimentary about Corey's work in the Trayvon Martin case, where her office filed second degree murder charges against neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the February 26 death of the unarmed African-American teen-ager.
And THIS is the sort of thing that makes me sick. Its just playing politics to shore up a voting base, nothing more than that. Disgusting.

I hope you've got plenty of time to spend waiting...

I think she screwed up, but 20 years, REALLY?! I have known of people that nearly beat someone to death and they got much less.
