A $2,000 pair of pocket pistols and a military rocket launcher -- sans rocket -- were among the 1,673 firearms that Los Angeles residents traded in for gift cards in the city’s gun buyback this weekend.
Gun owners traded their unwanted firearms for gift cards from Ralphs or Visa -- up to $100 for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and up to $200 for assault weapons. Participants could turn in guns anonymously, with no questions asked.
This year’s buyback, an initiative of the mayor's Gang Reduction and Youth Development Office, yielded 791 handguns, 527 rifles, 302 shotguns and 53 assault weapons, including one with a 50-round clip and silencer. Last year the effort netted 2,062 firearms.

Here's to hoping that somehow those end up on an online gun auction now :) Dear California, the residents of the rest of the free United States, specifically Texas, would be tickled pink to reimburse you for some of those.

On a side note, $100-$200 for buyback per gun? The irony of CA ripping the owners of those guns off so that they can "help" them is ... well, sorta amusing.

I thought that was the central theme of all CA politics. "Let us rob you blind with taxes so that we can help you."

California is not the only ones doing that. Do you realize that there are gun buy bask here in TX. Here is one in Dallas in 2009. They gave $50 grocery cards.

They've also had them in Austin.

Hope they have one in Houston soon. I could use a few "new" guns. "rlol"

WRONG -- The central theme of all CA politics is, "Let us rob you blind with taxes, fees, charges, fines, etc., so we can help someone else." Same theme Obama has.
