Southern California authorities say phosphorous may have coated beach rocks that caused a woman's shorts to catch fire, leaving her with severe burns.
Field tests indicated that the substance coating two rocks was phosphorous but they'll be sent to a state lab for verification. She also says the flammable chemical could have ignited when exposed to air.

Authorities say the 43-year-old woman's cargo pants caught fire on Saturday and she was hospitalized with third-degree burns to her leg. She remains hospitalized Thursday.

More like the residue from military ordnance. Phosphorus burns are very serious.
I'll bet she was walking on the beach at night and picked up some pretty stones that glowed in the dark.

Just goes to show that the old "liar, liar, pants on fire" stuff is a myth. Why, he's the most honest politician I've ever seen. He's going to pay my rent and my utilities, and I'll never have to work no more. Praise Jebus.

My family used to be members of the old San Onofre Surf Club, which is located on a strip of beach at the northern end of the Camp Pendleton coastline. The Navy and Marine Corps practice amphibious landings along these beaches, not far from what is now the state park. It could very easily be something related to expended ordnance.

I found out this morning that they are friends of friends. She is doing as well as can be expected. They are not military people and so "pretty rocks' did not set off any mental alarms. Poor thing. Apparently it is pretty bad burns.

Phosphorous burns can be VERY bad. Will pray that she fully recovers and has no lasting impact from the burns mamaberCali.
