Utah CFP renewal requires Tx CHL?

I just got my renewal for my Utah CFP and it requires that I hold a CHL in the state of residence before they'll renew it. I have to send in a copy with the renewal form. I guess Texas got their panties in a bunch because people were getting more out of a non-resident carry permit than their own state CHL. Kinda stinks, really........guess I'll go ahead and renew my Utah CFP since it gives me coverage while my Texas one get an address update or renewal. Seems they found a way to keep money going to the state.

The issue was / is, that Utah only requires a 4 hour course, no range time, and you learned Utah laws.
While that is OK, if you are carrying in Utah, if you are [obviously] carrying in Texas, and not Utah, then you should learn Texas laws and do it the Texas way, not just try to circumvent the way.

This wasn't driven by Texas per se, but was caused by the poor marketing methods used by some Utah instructors in Texas and other states advertising that you could get a Utah permit and bypass your own state's CHL. Utah made the decision to change their policy because of it, to require that if you are in a shall issue state, you had to get your state's license first. Texas did not make the decision to not honor a non-residence license.

Keith is correct.
Many states were threatening to drop reciprocity with Utah, so that prompted the change. Now, if your state has reciprocity with Utah, you cannot obtain or renew a Uah CFP unless you also hold a license from your home state.
Texas did not have anything to do with this.

Well, that sure makes a whole lot more sense to me now! Thanks guys. I've always liked having both licenses as it gave me overlapping coverage.
