2 out of 3 carrying

Friday Night a few friends and i decided to get together and hang out. We met up in a smoke shop downtown because my friend wanted to pick something up. It was about 11:30 at night. He brought another friend of his that i didn't know very well. We all had separate cars. As we were getting ready to leave, I saw another car pull into the parking lot. It pulled up fast which set off some alarms in the back of my head. Both of the other guys I was with started pulling out of the lot when the car stopped right behind me and a guy jumped out and started running up to my window. At this point, everything kind of slowed down for me. Before i knew what happened, I had drawn my handgun, flicked the safety off, and had it pointed at the door under my left arm. At the same time, both of my friends stopped their cars, and the car that the guy jumped out of took off. The first thing the guy at my window said was "I'm not a robber". This did not make me feel any better. I've never heard anyone start a conversation that way. Then he told me i should just go ahead and wave my friends on. (Fat Chance). The guy i was with that i didn't know very well hopped out of his car and started moving to my right toward the front of my car. At this point i was slightly concerned. I didn't think he should have left his car. Luckily, The gentleman just wanted to beg for money at that point. I gave him a 5 and he went on his way. At that point, we all decided to just head to my friend's apartment. When we got in, I asked the other guy why he jumped out of his car. He responded by pulling out a keltec PF9, cleared it and handed it to me. I laughed and cleared my PX4 Storm and handed it to him. We talked about guns for a little while and then we put them up. I'm glad it turned out like it did, but it was a scary situation. From now on, I think we're not gonna go downtown to often that late.

I'm glad it worked out for you guys... I'm curious why you felt the need to give him money though; did you roll your window down thus allowing him physical access to you? Or was the window already down and you felt giving him money was the best way to get rid of him quickly?

I already had the window down. I drive a trans am with t-tops. I had them off and the window down. I just wanted to try to get rid of him. He kind of looked like he was high and i didn't want him to do anything to escalate the situation.

I would have given him nothing. When a beggar is suitably humble, I can be generous. Whe
he starts telling
me that my friends can move along, he's just lost out on any generosity. Prideful attitude is not a good quality for a beggar. Neither is aggressive motion, like running toward me.
BTW, this is typical of why I don't "go out" late. Nothing good happens after 10 p.m., but that's just me. Not saying you did anything wrong by being out late. I assume "flicked the safety off" means you were carrying a 1911? Good man.

The only fight you win is the one you avoid.

PX4 storm. ;)
but maybe one day the forum can convince him to switch to the 'good guy's side' and carry a 1911

Believe me, I wish i had a 1911. I love those guns. Usually I don't give beggers money. If it was just me i probably would have driven off, but with my friends there i was willing to part with a few dollars to defuse the situation.

Nothing about this adds up to a guy just begging
My $.02...This was an aborted robbery!!
Guy comes fast into the lot and runs towards your car. Upon seeing your 2 buddies stop up short and get out, his friend driving bails and leaves him to fend for himself. Being a practiced thug he quickly goes to his backup story about just needing some money so he can difuse the situation and get out of there. Think about it. He knew just what to say and his situational awareness was pretty darn high to notice your buddies going to condition red. This wasn't the first time he had done this.
You were lucky...and prepared

Other unarmed friend going to be carrying soon now? At least he hangs out with people who are prepared.

Exactly. Good job being prepared - and very clever of you to have an armed backup!

The thought crossed our mind. My other friend that was carrying thought the car went around the buildings to park on the other side of an alley that runs between them.
My unarmed friend can't carry yet. he's only 19, but he wants to get his CHL right when he turns 21.

He can carry in the car under MPA.

How is that possible when you have to be 21 to buy a handgun? I thought you had to be 21 to enact MPA.

"Buy" and "possess" are two different things. It is not illegal for an 18 year old to possess a handgun....only to
buy a handgun. Otherwise, Texas would not be able to extend CHL privileges to active duty military personnel between the ages of 18 and 21. My son owned his own 1911 by age 18. I gave it to him. That said, he did not carry it in his car at my request, specifically because MPA was new law back then, and I didn't want to risk having him interviewed by a cop who wasn't yet up to speed on the new law. He did, however, keep a Mossberg 12 gauge in his trunk.
