Getting ready for motorcycle trip. Heres my itinerary. Leaving Irving June 21st, arrive in Columbus Ohio on the 22nd. 1,055 miles. Play with plays with son #2 and his better half. Leave Columbus at the crack of dawn or earlier on Thursday the 28th and and arrive in St. Mary's Georgia sometime that night. 781 miles. Play with my other son's significant other and hopefully with my son. Don't know if he will be in port or not (Navy thing). Leave St. Mary's Georgia July 4th and arrive back in Irving on July 5th. 1,088 miles. So lets see, I'll be cruising thru Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Thirteen states by motorcycle. So ya think I should get stickers for each state to put on my saddlebags? Oh, and dont' forget one days rest before going back to work.

I assume you have a different CHL to carry in Ohio? All other states should be no issue for reciprocity.

Nope. I'll have to lock it up before I leave Kentucky. With the way Ohio laws work I'll have to put my pistol in a locked case in one saddlebag, empty my magazines, re-box my ammo and lock it up in the other saddlebag. They will arrest you if your caught with an unloaded gun and loaded magazines.

You can have your unloaded handgun, empty magazines, and loose ammo all in the same container - no need to separate them in Ohio law. For that matter, you could have the ammo in your pocket. Ammo can be anywhere you want except in the gun or magazine.
And yes, I agree they have a stupid law.

I found this link on this forum last year when I was planning a trip and found it very useful. You can click on a state and get in [abbreviated profanity deleted] on requirements to inform, legal signs, restricted carry locations etc. It's a great resource. I don't know how well it's maintained to reflect changes in the law.
I saved it in my favorites.

This link here is hands down the best resource for traveling with a concealed carry license and gun:

I get a 404 error on this link now. Not sure if it's a temporary problem or the site is gone now.
