I just renewed online in less than 2 minutes, this will be my 3rd renewal so apparently I'm exempt from taking a renewal class? I feel like this was too good to be true and I'll find out I missed something. Is it really that easy your 3rd time around?

You do need to send in the forms once they are notarized, but yes it is pretty simple. I just renewed mine (I think this was the third renewal for me) and it was easy.

I did not think that one had to send in forms notarized for renewals if one did the renewal online.

I just renewed mine last month on-line as well. I did not send in any forms. Just paid the fee and they did the rest...

Yup, my wife just did hers that way a few months ago and I am getting ready to do the same.

For those of use that have to take the test to renew any idea how long it's taking to get it done? Mine expires in Sept and the next class available to me here is on June 23. Starting to seat it.

Once you hit the six month mark there's no disadvantage to applying early unless you're really short on cash or time and the situation will improve soon.

I did mine online but they required the notarized forms. I just did mine in March, not sure why mine was different.

This is interesting. I've read several times about sending "notarized" forms. Last September I did my fifth renewal online and did not get anything nororized. I still have the email from TX with the transaction barcode and there is not one word of having anything notarized.

BTW, my plastic came just fine without notorized documents (I'm now good until 2017) and I did send back a printed copy of their email. Do they now require notarization?

I just did my first time renewal. Took the class on April 26, mailed the forms on April 30, status updated on May 21, showed mailed on June 5, and received on June 9. So overall that's about 6 weeks.

Actually, there could be. You need to make sure you take your renewal class and submit your paperwork as soon as possible after you submit your online app. If DPS receives the application and starts processing it but does not have your CHL-100, they may send you a letter requesting your paperwork from class. At that point you have only 90 days to submit it. If you exceed the 90 days and don't send in what they request, they can terminate your application. If they terminate your application you have to start all over just like a new CHL and take the whole class and pay for a new license ($140 vs. $70).

If you haven't received a letter from DPS wanting to know where your paperwork is, then you have 90+ days to get your class done.
