Hey,

Based on the feedback from another thread, I've been looking at different holsters and the Comp-tac Minotaur MTAC looks pretty good. Anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks!

Love mine. I can't say enough good things about it and one of the benefits some people point out about the MTAC over the Crossbreed is that the MTAC has plastic clips vs the metal ones from Crossbreed. I've seen some people say that the metal clips have scuffed their expensive gun belts and other who never saw an issue.
If you get one or the other and it doesn't feel right at first just keep wearing it. Its unformed leather and it has to be broken in just like a new ball glove. It will eventually conform to the the shape of your hip/thigh.
Get one and you will love it.
The only reason I went with Comp-Tac is because they're a Texas company and I buy Texas whenever I can.

I have three of them and it's my favorite CC holster by far.

You'll find it's very popular here, along with Crossbreed Supertuck and other similar holsters.

I only have one but it has been great. My only concern is that the screws seem to work themselves loose occasionally. It is comfortable and I'd highly recommend it.

First holster I bought. For carrying, it's probably the only holster I ever expect to need. Ajustable as I would ever need, comfortable all day, and extremely versatile for concealed carry. Simply pu, it's a winner.

I've had this same problem. You need to keep an eye on them and re-tighten them occasionally. I've had the clip screws come loose as well as the retention screw.

I think it is a better holster than the Crossbreed Supertuck and have switched to it for all my carry guns.

I just couldn't't get used to mine so I ended up returning it before i scuffed it up. I personally thought the plastic clips were too flexible so I didn't trust them. I have also found I like a full leather holster over a hybrid.

A lot of folks love them so I guess they were just not my cup of tea.

I still bought Texan though, DM Bullard. I have 2 now from him.

Here's what Comp-Tac recommends and taken from their site...

"Retention screws should be checked on a weekly basis. It is recommended that you use medium (blue) Loctite to secure them once you have found a level of retention that best suits your personal needs."

I have many of both Comp-Tac and Crossbreed. The only reason I buy Crossbreed is that they have holsters for more pistols than Comp-Tac does. Buy Texican!

I still have mine for the G27, that I no longer have. I liked it when I used it, but I still preferred OWB. I had it for about 2 years and didn't have any problems with retention screws or clips and did not use loctite. I'm still contemplating whether or not I want another one for my G30, only because it's a little wider than the G27. I wonder if I can just order the kydex outer for the G30 and change that out or if that piece is even removable. I'll have to check into that.

It looks like they do for only $38. I guess I won't be selling that one after all.

Love mine. I've only had my CHL in hand for 2 days but it has been very comfortable. I ordered mine with the "C" clips which work quite well with the gun belt I ordered from Blackhawk. I ordered an additional kydex body for my Bersa Thunder .380, but I haven't carried that gun yet.

Will the weight distribution help this to work with regular belts or will I need a stiffer "gun belt" to go with it?

I love my M-TAC, and have recommended them to several friends, who have also bought and loved the M-TAC.

Personally, I like to "upgrade" to the "C-Clips" because they stay on the belt a little more securely than the standard clips, AND they're a bit less "obvious." For the ultimate "stealth" you can get a velcro clip and a belt with velcro on the inside...WIfe has a setup like that, and it's GREAT.

As far as a stiffer belt, let me say that a proper gun belt is NEVER a bad decision. It's not quite as make or break for IWB as it is for OWB, but it does make a significant difference. For a good IWB holster, a relatively stiff "off the rack" belt will work, whereas it really doesn't for OWB carry...but a good gun belt is still worth the money.

I admit a certain partiality to Comp-Tac holsters for many reasons, but the first is the quality and functonality. These rigs (all their gear) are developed by and for people who actually carry guns all the time, and actually use them as well. Some holsters are made for CARRYING a gun, others are made for USING a gun...Comp-Tac's gear is designed for people who do both at the same time...and it just WORKS. Besides, they're good people, and Texans to boot!

I've been wearing my MTAC for over 3 years now, (mine's old enough that the newer generation clamshells won't fit it anymore). It is a daily carry rig for me, AND i frequently pull from it at IDPA matches...I don't know if that's a real endorsement for you, but it is to me--it carrys well, adjusts easily to any angle I want to carry at, and it doesn't cost me significant amounts of time in competition (about than 1/2 second over my straight-draw OWB match rig).

As for the screws coming loose--a drop or two of clear nail polish or light-grade loc-tite will fix that for a while...maybe every month or soI tighten the belt-loop screws--but I've never had anything come off.
