And people wonder why I go on rants about proper holsters. I explicitly get annoyed at the whole ClipDraw thing. I think that is a business that should get bankrupted by a personal injury lawsuit.

Over the 5 or 6 years that I worked in an ER, I actually saw several of these injuries where someone had shot themselves in their personal business because they were sticking an unholstered gun down the front of their pants. It is ALWAYS funny, because the people who do that to themselves are, by definition, universally stupid. Stupid, because that type of injury is 100% avoidable. When that gun discharges, there's almost no possibility that the injury won't be serious, and even possibly fatal. If the congenital idiot is lucky, the barrel points straight down and and the shot clips their nether regions. If the barrel is cocked off to one side or the other, they clip their femoral artery and bleed out.

And when they show up in the ER need of a vascular or plastic surgeon (or a urologist) because of this kind of idiocy, they invariably have a line of hokum concocted to explain how it happened. Not only do these stories typically lack any internal coherence, but they are also ridiculous to the nth degree. If the patient imagines that their story will be respectfully listened to, they are sadly mistaken as the typical response is to bust out laughing.

Back when I had not been a member of this forum very long, I recall another member posting about how he trains with his unholstered cocked and locked 1911 stuffed down the front of his pants, and how he could even do somersaults that way without the gun coming loose.....and I just used to cringe. He of course got a lot of comments from other members decrying his lack of common sense. As I recall, his response was that he was better prepared than the rest of us because he trained that way. I don't recall if he was better prepared to self-treat a gunshot wound to his genitals than the rest of us. In any case, I can't recall the member's name either, or if he still posts here. Hopefully, he's come to understand the error of judgement entailed in doing somersaults with an unholstered cocked and locked 1911 stuffed into the front of his pants, without having injured himself in the acquisition of that particular wisdom.....although I'm sure it would make for another hilarious story.
