I took my class, got finger printed, and sent all in to DPS.
How do I tell where I am in the process.
I just did all this a couple days ago. I'm just wondering how you know where it's all at.

You're waiting.
Or unless you already have your holster picked out, you should also be shopping for your conceal carry holster.

The best advice I can give is to put it out of your mind. It will come when it comes. Easier said than done, perhaps, but there it is.

That status might not change for 2-3 weeks, but probably closer to two. So, you might only have ten days before they change your status to application received.
Start carrying around the house to get used to the weight. If you're married or whatever, start carrying around the house concealed and see if they notice.

Well it has exclaimation marks next to "application revcieved" and "background check under review" and "printing permit"
So I guess I'm moving through the pipeline.
I like the idea of carrying in the home and see if the wife notices. Also getting used to the weight.
Just pluggin along.

Well while the website says mailed but it's not arrived yet.
I've stopped keeping a gun in my truck as I'm concerned
if stopped my status on a tag run by police is that I'm a CHL
holder. With no permit on hand a weapon in the truck could cause me
problems. I took the advice of a forum member and am wearing my firearm
around the house concealed to get used to it. No one in my family ever sees it.
It's a .38 snubby revovler, but I wil be replacing it with a Glock 27 (.40 cal) w/extended mag.
Anyone have an idea of just how long "mailed" really means?

IANAL, but a CHL is not required to carry a concealed firearm in your vehicle... however, I understand your decision. Personally, I wasn't carrying in my vehicle until I installed a lockbox in it... I didn't want to leave a loaded gun inside my car unsecured (my glove box and console don't have locks).

Mine arrived one week after it was "mailed." So, hang tight... you're almost done!

My understanding from a CHL instructor who is a retired Asst. Police Chief of Waxihatchie is that if you are a CHL holder, pulled over by a cop, you come up on a tag run as a CHL holder. He explained that having a firearm at ANY time with out the CHL card is a violation. However a non CHL holder can have a firearm in the car. But have a CHL and a firearm and it must be carried. Anyone else have a different understanding? I don't think I'll take the chance by putting one in my truck until my card arrives but I'm just wondering what the actual law says.
I've always been nervous about leaving my weapon in my truck. I need a vehicle safe. Even though I am getting my CHL, there are places I can't take it in. Anyone know a good truck safe?
