Emergency Preparedness and Survival dedicated sub topic

I would be interested in the forum having an Emergency Preparedness and Survival dedicated sub topic. These are topics I think would be of great interest and benefit to the CHL community. Instead of having go to other forums for focused information and discussion, put it in a dedicated subtopic for easy to find postings. Having these topic grouped together makes the info more accessible and easy to browse instead of relying on specific search features.

I have learned more by browsing others postings than by posting my own topics.

I think this would attract other members of the CHL community to the forum and could serve to educate preppers and survivalists about CHL. Being a CHLer and a prepper, I know people who are either one or the other but not both and some that are both but don't frequent the forum. Both groups share common beliefs. :cheers2: but sometimes I think they don't realize it.

" Hey, you should check out this forum, it has a lots of info about topics we always talk about" type word of mouth promotion. I've been trying to get some people to check out the forum and promote CHL but they resist. :banghead:

You can start a topic like that at any time. Not sure it needs its own section.

There's a hunting photo sub topic? Same argument. You can start a topic like that at any time. Not sure it needs its own section. Hunting photos are nice. But for the sake of argument, it's not a CHL issue either and Emergency Prep and survival is way more important.

I guess you missed the part:

I think the reason for that is because some people find those photos pretty gruesome. Putting those photos in their own forum makes it easy for people to avoid those kind of photos if they want.

Some "survivalist" photos could be gruesome as well, such as what parts of which animals are safe to eat raw. I suspect the likely quantity of such pictures means that I'm coming dangerously close to my own "if it's only true in a sense, then it's not true" counter-argument though.

I think it's a great idea. I have a lot of practical thoughts I would like to share on the subject, but feel awkward posting them where they don't seem to be appropriate.

I agree with Keith. We can already discuss those topics without creating a special section. As time goes by, if there are enough topics like that, the moderators might choose to create a special section. Right now it looks premature based on the limited results I get from searching for survivalist subjects.

That's exactly why the Hunting Photos forum was created. In recent months, I've combined less-used forums into others to reduce, not increase, the number of separate topics. Over time, the Forum grows to the point that many Members feel it too cumbersome to navigate and when we have little-used forums, I have to agree.

Only a few months ago I considered opening two new forums and the Moderators talked me out of it for the reasons I just mentioned. They were right.

Chas.

As for as the sub topics, no problem in not adding them, what I can't find/easily find here I'll find elsewhere. So no change there. I still enjoy the the forum and support the cause.

As for as the hunting pics, no biggie there either, just one more topic to either pass over or take a look at.

On a side note:

I think the hunting pics may have some educational value other than sharing stories.

As a hunter, who has dressed out deer, cornfed pigs ( See Boucherie, http://mostlycajun.com/wordpress/?p=716" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), ducks, rabbit and squirrel ,it's no issue for me, I've seen the most gruesome (buchering) things that can be done to an animal.

I just find it odd that people would be squeamish/averse about those sorts of pics in a forum like this. Do they really know what it means to be a CHL or even own a gun?

I think people should be reminded/educated what a gun can do. So when it comes time to decide if it's right to pull the trigger in a defensive situation, you really know the consequences. Seeing ( and actually having splattered red tissue in my hands) dead animals has definitely had an effect on my way of thinking. I know what a gun can do if I pull the trigger, and what can happen to me if I don't. I feel I'm less likely to make the wrong decision because of it and I am safer in my gun handling/storage and have heightened situational awareness.

To many people, little holes in paper are all they know. To anyone who owns a gun and more so to those who carry for defense, if youre not a hunter, maybe you should check out the hunting pics, it might put things into a little better perspective. Hopefully, you will be less likely to lose your temper in an argument or make you more aware of your surroundings so you're less likely to be reduced to a pile of splattered red tissue.

Don't take your ball and go home. :nono: You can post topics without having your own special sub forum. There's no 1911 sub forum but people still talk about them.

True, no matter how much we beg them to stop "rlol"

I think it's find to just post as-appropriate. As a guy who runs a forum for a major company, getting the forum hierarchy "right" is VERY difficult to do, and it is ALWAYS wiser to go with "too few" than "too many."

Thought, though: this forum has the 13 year old daughter rule. And while you may not have a problem with your daughter seeing those pictures, there might be some folks who would rather at least have those pictures off in a separate forum to protect their daughters at least for a while longer. Not judging, either way, but pointing out what some would likely consider a valid reason for the segregation.

:iagree: I don't think that there will be enough discussion to sustain a sub topic.
