Today's Excitement: WildFire

Today I went to pick up my wife from work and go to lunch. Off the side of the highway we spotted a wildfire starting just off the service road, split on two sides. I pulled over and called the fire department, and while waiting for them to show up.... proceeded to stomp out fires wearing shorts and nothing on my feet but a pair of rubber crocs. Dumb move. My feet are perforated by mesquite needles and I have mild burns all over my feet and ankles.

Here is what I wanted to say: Keep an eye out for wildfires y'all. If you see one, stop and offer any help... I was out there with ONE other guy for 15 minutes trying to stop the fire from reaching homes not 100 feet away, right off the highway. I bet 75 people passed in their cars, and did nothing but slow down to rubberneck.

No homes were destroyed. FD came just in time, fire missed the homes by about 15 feet.

Bet those homeowners were glad you stopped to help!

We've had rain recently, but the folks popping off fireworks in my neighborhood last night still made me a little twitchy since we've got fields on 3 sides of the neighborhood that could easy catch if they were dry enough. :???:
