Is it just me or are you guys seeing them everywhere? I'm seeing them in places I've never seen them before (within big cities), and they're definitely working I-35 hard. I'm seeing anywhere from 3-6 cars pulled over on my way to work every day.

Don't know about DPS, but I have been noticing the Grapevine guys running those unmarked Chargers along SH121 more the last couple of weeks. They have a black/charcoal one and a maroon one that will just sneak right up on you. I always have my cruise control on the limit or +1, so I haven't had any trouble, but I've seen anywhere from 2-5 people stopped every day the last two weeks in that area. Irving police have also been heavily patrolling I-635 west of I-35E during this same time period.

When I had my little 'incident' with DPS a few weeks ago, we continued our motorcycle ride, and within a 30 mile radius I counted 12 cops. Mostly DPS and Sheriff's Department. 4 were unmarked crown vic's. Insane.

I didn't see any DPS cars today but I did see a lot more Harris County Constable cars than I usually do on a weekend afternoon.
Stores also seemed a lot more crowded than usual but I have no explanation for that.

They move concentrations of officers around to targeted enforcement areas. I used to have to travel I35 between Dallas and Thackerville Ok regularly. Usually was a couple or three DPS. Then we'd have a week with 10 or more between Denton and the Red river. After that it would drop back two or three again. Now this isn't counting the Sheriffs officers and every little city revenue hunting officer that hung out on the freeway.

They're probably running STEP again for awhile due to all the traffic going to the lakes and vacationers on the roadways. Helps keep accidents down and traffic running smoothly

Slightly off topic but speaking of Grapevine... how's the 114/121 construction going? I've been out of the country for over 7 months, need to know how much longer to stay away

It is amazing how they are progressing. It seems like every other week they shift us to a new section of road. In reality, it might be every 3-4 weeks.
Also, the work along I-635 from just west of I-35E eastward has really started picking up speed.

If most of the stops are happening along Interstates, it may just be that they are out reminding folks that the new speed limit is 75, not 85.

I was awakened (again) at 2:00 this morning by the sound of another CareFlight chopper buzzing over my house. Another wreck at 114 and Kimball in Southlake (barely). I heard on the news there was one fatality and another that was choppered to a Ft. Worth hospital. I wish they'd get it done already!

I've seen the charcoal gray Charger before, but not the maroon one. Thanks for the heads up. I live just a hop skip and a jump off of SH121, and I use it frequently, particularly the on/off ramps for Hall Johnson Rd......although ever since Stone Meyers Parkway opend up through to Mustang Drive (right by where my church is), I take that route much more frequently now.

The Grapevine connector project is actually a year ahead of schedule. While the construction isn't convenient (we are having a heck of a time finding a consistent lane wide enough to get our RV over 114), the problem isn't the construction. It is those "enlightened" people who think they can negotiate the rough pavement and every changing lane configurations at Warp speed.
I'm not sure if it was the same wrong way being reported on the radio news or not. That one killed his passenger and nearly took out a bunch of innocent people driving where they were supposed to be. He was released from JPS and is police custody for intoxication manslaughter. I'm sorry, but it should be a capitol offense.
Back to the OP. I've seen a more DPS cars in places where I never saw them before in the last 3 weeks. Our Town is notorious for is revenue mentality on speed so I'm super cautious anyway and don't mind the additional police presence.

I had it for a few years and it worked great, but when you speed and forget to turn on the detector, bad things happen.
I just got rid of the temptation by removing it from the car.

I hard-wired mine in with an Invisicord to the rear-view mirror, whenever car is on the detector is on. I ran without a detector for probably 10 years...I've gotta tell you, the newer technology is absolutely crazy good...my favorite thing is the built-in GPS system...automatically cancels out false alarms, indicates speed on first radar contact, has memory for pre-programmed red light cameras, speed cameras, etc.
