Mrs. Snatchel, "I want to get a CHL"

Yes, that is correct. This has been a long, long process..... I'm delighted :)

Six years ago when I met Mrs. Snatchel, she was a recent immigrant from a 3rd world country that is extremely anti-gun. She migrates to California, where I met her. We all know the policy and general consensus of Californians, and her ideologies never changed.

Fast forward to our move to Texas, and Mrs. Snatchel being exposed to a culture where fireamrs are not only acceptable, but durn near mandatory. She viewed them as a silly, expensive, and dangerous hobby, and saw no reason for a person to own one-for protection or otherwise.

I have been carrying long before we moved to Texas under a FL CHL, so she was accustomed to me carrying whenever we would leave CA. When we moved to TX, she had to get used to me carrying 24/7. She thought it was silly and paranoid, but she was a good sport for the most part.

Today, the Batman Shooting really shook her up. For the first time I saw fear in her face as the realization that violence surrounds her, and these things can happen to anyone, anywhere. It is so strange how the realization hit and changed her whole thought process in about 5 seconds. She noticed this, and commented on her late night study habits with her girlfriend/classmate that tend to keep her out till 3 a.m. on most weeknights.

Anyway. This evening we shot up some paper plates and knocked out the online application. She will be looking for a CHL class soon. :anamatedbanana :smash: :clapping: :txflag:

Congratulations. :tiphat:

It's just sad that it takes a disaster such as Colorado to open the eyes and minds of those that are otherwise walking around in a fog of false security.

I am often amazed at how someones prospective can change so quickly. We see and hear of things happening around us on a daily basis, but until something major like batman, or someone we know gets in a situation, it does not effect us. I truley belive if more people would think about the things around them, we would all have a very diffrent view of things.

There is nothing so bracing as a splash of cold water in the face, is there? Good for her my friend. Plus, I gotta tell you (and I'm sure those of us hubbies with wives who carry will probably back this up), a girl with a gun is hot. When she's your wife, it don't get any better.

Well said.
It's good that after such disasters, some learn.
It's sadder that some continue to walk in a fog.

I wonder how closely the number of people newly convinced by this tragedy that we need stricter gun control laws are balanced out by those newly convinced that they need to start exercising their 2A.

Unfortunately, I believe that we are outnumbered.

Yep. Now we start gun shopping. Last night we watched faliaphotography videos, talked with a buddy, and googled a bunch of stuff. She tore up a paper plate @ 10 feet last night withh my G17, and did just as well with an LCP (which she hated becuse of the trigger.)

She shot the Glock really well, loved it, and wants one. Problem is she is going to have a hard time concealing a G19/17 on body, and the G26 was just a bit too snappy for her.

I am thinking a G19 for purse carry, and will continue researching other options for on-body carry. A single-stack 9mm is what she is looking at. Options:

Kahr K9
Kahr CM9
Walther PPS
Sig P250

Those are the 4 we will try first. Any recommendations on those?

I wouldn't advise a green shooter like her to carry a SIG p250, because it's a combination of a small gun and a double action only trigger (I'm sure I'm right about that). Unless she loads up and fires several thousand rounds in practice, it's going to be extremely difficult for her to hit the side of a barn with it. Let HER shoot them all, and pick out the one SHE feels most comfortable with. Have you considered a P238?
