Dumb accidental discharge in Wamart

I just got my CHL but was an LE officer for 10 years with the Coast Guard.
One of the most aggravating things I see is carelessness. In all the years I’ve been handling weapons I’ve never had an accidental discharge. I’ll bet the vast majority of members on this site can say the same thing. Why? Safe routines. We all have routines we do every time we handle a weapon. Such as assuming its loaded and handling it as if it is loaded even when we know it’s not. Or always keeping the muzzle in a safe direction. And most importantly, if your weapon has a safety, ensuring it’s on prior to wearing it.
This fool was reaching for his wallet and discharged his firearm because he forgot to check the safety before donning his holster and weapon.
Accidents do happen. They're an unfortunate fact of life. But when one happens and a child is injured what kind of idiot runs? He got arrested for child endangerment and fleeing the scene when an off duty cop approached him. SO HE RAN! Got caught, will definitely lose his CHL, and as it turns out the only charge he’ll get is fleeing. If he had stayed and help the mother & child ( hit by ricocheting fragments) he would not have been arrested. What a jerk, running with a child standing there crying.
Safe routines avoid accidents.
ROUTINES! Their important!
Oh yeah....and he shot himself in the butt too!
