Renewal picture question

Is there a way to request they use your driver's license photo? My original CHL photo looks terrible (came out really red) and I just had my DL renewed last year and that picture is good. If not, do I just submit a set of passport photos and will they automatically use them even if they think my old CHL photo is ok? If submitting a new set of photos, what is the procedure since my "checklist" does not say I need them?

If your checklist does not say you need them, why did you do them?
I don't know how to go about "asking" to have your DL photo used, but that is probably what they are going to do.

I didn't say I did them yet. I said my original photo looks like crap. It looks like a red blob. Like they had the saturation cranked up to max when they digitized it. So I would prefer a new one be used. Either the one from my DL, or ones I would submit if I can. Plus there is a good chance they would come back and say they need a new one anyway unless they automatically try to use the DL one if the old one is bad. The checklist just says they will "try" to use the original one and notify you if they need one.

I'm sorry. I missed the word "original."

You can do two things:
1. Have new passport pictures taken and submit them with your renewal along with a CHL 6.
2. Submit a CHL6 with "Use driver's license photo." written on it.
Eather way, you need to submit a completed CHL6.

My library card photo is the best ...
My TDL photo is about 8 years old, since I renewed online in suit and tie and short hair clean shaven back when I worked at a law office
My CHL photo looks like Charles Manson after 5 years of not shaving or haircut ... really scary ... I kinda like it.
I cleaned up again (temporarily, since they want to ordain me as deacon and the hair/beard irritated a Pastor cousin in Abilene and I know he's be here... beards grow back, my dad's hair turned grey, mine's turning loose), but if a bad guy approaches me, I'll show him my photo ...
In person ... I look like none of the above

So, to vote, they require 4 forms of ID, 3 with pictures (really, it's on the computer sheet)

That certainly sounds like the easiest thing. Is that "officially" written somewhere as the procedure, or does anyone know for a fact that it is acceptable?

As of June, 2012, DPS no longe requires new applicants with a Texas Driver's License to submit photos with their applications. The photo on the Texas Driver's License will be used on your CHL. If you have a driver's license from a state other than Texas, then you must submit two passport photos. These photos will be provided as part of the CHL class.

Yes, it is acceptable. That is the method that DPS told us to use.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

FWIW, I finally got my renewal in the mail (47 days total) and they did indeed use my driver's licence photo. As suggested, I enclosed the CHL-6 with "use driver's licence" on it.

I hoped they would use my old CHL photo but they used my older DL photo. I renewed DL online so the photo is 8 years old.
