It ended years ago. Like parents sueing Huffy Bicycle and winning because their three year old was injured on a purple tricycle. She was unattended and rode onto a shady street and had severe head injuries when struck by a vehicle. They won millions because a purple bike is not as easily seen as a brighter color. How about charging the parents with neglect for not being brighter? No Way!

Welcome to the forum, gthaustex!

Forgot the child seat, didn't know where his loaded gun was.
It MUST be Glock's fault for the gun design!

/facepalm

Puma Guy, my question was more rhetorical than anything else. Every time I read something like this I shake my head and wonder in amazement. Unfortunately, these thought processes are becoming more prevalent and the lawsuits more common. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen a lawsuit against a revolver manufacturer because they don't have grip safeties or manual safeties or some such. I would also be interested to know what disciplinary action was taken by the LAPD against their officer. I doubt that he got in trouble for violating laws about making a firearm accessible to a child....

On a different note, thanks for the welcome. I have been a board lurker for quite a while and decided to join. The discussions that take place here are thought stimulating. I look forward to contributing to them.

I never heard about that one. The only lawsuit with Huffy I can find is one about "defective" brakes. The plaintiffs also named Walwart as a respondent. It sounds like the one you were referring to was a long time ago. :headscratch

WB I guess I piqued your curiosity  It was probably in the 1970's, at least thats when I had to take a "class" along with other employees given by our company's legal counsel. I had material including the case information (so and so Vs XYZ) we got in that class for years in my files work, but trashed it all when I retired in 2006. There was a whole list of stupid lawsuits that were ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. We had an incident that resulted in a fatality and the family sued. As all major companies do in a reactionary move supervisors were given the class. Some of the cases were so ridiculous that you'd have thought there's no way a jury would rule in favor of the plaintiff but did. I was never a person to blame others and back in the 60's as a teenager I was shot with an early Ruger Single Six that discharged when it fell. My fault. I had loaded all six chambers even though I knew better. Nowadays a lawyer would sue the rock it fell on. "rlol"

:iagree:

And when people started suing because they didn't know you couldn't use that hairdryer while still in the shower.
And when some woman won a few million after SHE spilled McDonald's coffee on herself in her car.
And
And
And it's unbelievable how many people want to blame someone else for their own stupidity or something that was just an accident.

Personal responsibility evaporated about the same time as zero tolerance surfaced.

Does not make much sense...

I actually posted the original story here almost exactly 4 years ago: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=17336" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I had forgotten about it until I saw the OP's linked story.

It did pique my interest. I haven't even heard the name Huffy for many years. I was always a Schwinn kind of guy. I guess the original lawsuit happened ca. 20 B.I. [20 years before Internet] so it's not so easy to find. ;-)

You should call a lawyer about the faulty Ruger and see if the statute of limitations has run out.

I have always thought that the lawyers and judges played a part in all the stupid lawsuits......some just need to be thrown out before they can start.

I wish I had kept some of the stuff I had. I had one of those plastic engraved signs a guy had ordered for marking flow direction on lines (pipes) in the refinery processing units. He wrote he wanted 100 2"x10" White on Blacksigns with arrows on them. He got 100 signs with "ARROWS" written on them. I used it a lot to emphasize how important it is to make sure the person you're communicating with understands what you're saying. "rlol" "rlol" "rlol"

It's only been 46 years. Is it too late to sue? :biggrinjester:
