Taking the class before you turn 21

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think I remember from the Instructors class that somebody that is not 21 yet can take the class and then wait till they turn 21 to finish getting the CHL as long as the certificate has not expired. Am I remembering right? Still waiting to teach my first class but I am getting a lot of questions from potential clients.
