I do believe there is a clip that holds the spring on the rod. did the clip come off and you might be able to contact the co and have them send you another one or go to a FULL service hardware store and buy one

It came unscrewed so i took it to a gunsmith. He told me it was made that way so you could replace the springs.since it's my carry gun i had him put perment locktite on it.I just never would have thought it would have come apart.Something to think about. That could be emberrassing at the wrong time.

Two piece guide rods are a malfunction waiting to happen. I take all full length guide rods, two piece or one piece, out of my 1911 pistols and replace them with GI style guide rods. Loktite is a good idea on guns that you don't have the option of being able to change the GR out.

Don't forget, someday you WILL have to replace the springs.

I found something once (on the web - so it must be true) that the plastic rod flex as part of the gun during recoil and that the steel rods just batter the gun more. Anyway - I always kept the plastic rod on my Glocks and had a spare for replacement - never a problem. Ditto with the Walther I have now - plastic rod and no problems.
