Ruger 10/22 TD

With my new job, I'm lucky to have to go to Austin weekly, and the toll road just happens to dump me right out at Cabelas in Buda.

It'll send me to the poor house soon enough!
They had the Ruger 10/22 Takedown in stock for $349 and I had to snag one. It's $30 more than the Academy advertised price, but Academy never has them...
I love to entire kit! Nice bag seems solid enough (it's no Tenzing, but it'll do!). The takedown process is super easy, and there's no play once assembled. Sites are your standard 10/22 sites, and it comes with the scope rail.
Ruger also has OEM 25 round mags (BX-25) for $29, and feel a lot more solid than the Butler Creek mags.
I'll eventually thread and can this puppy, and I think it'll be a great shooter. It'll be a couple of weeks before I can get out to shoot it though...

Those are cool! I've been wanting one, too. Hard to find, though, at the places I've looked. May have to wait a year or so til demand dies down.
Anyway, here's a thread over on rimfire where a guy modified a wood stock for one:

I'm trying to get some 10/22 Takedowns in stock, also for $349. I'm not sure how Academy is pricing them significantly less, except on some kind of imaginary bulk order deal.
If anybody in the Austin area is looking for one, let me know and I will contact you once I have a better idea of when I can place an order for them.

pbwalker,
Cabelas will match the Academy price.
Last year I was headed North on I-35 to visit a friend near Buda. I had stopped at Academy in N. San Antonio to buy a 10-22, but the one I wanted was out of stock.
During my visit the next day, we made a trip to Cabelas. They had what I wanted in stock, but like you, it was about $30 higher. I mentioned it to the sales clerk, he called an Acedemy in San Antonio to verify the price, and MATCHED IT.
If you don't mention it, they will not tell you.

This is very true, but it's not about "matching", it's about "in stock." Ruger 10/22 Takedowns are ALMOST as hard to find now as M&P Shields.

I bought one at Mike Smith's in Port Arthur yesterday for $300 and he had at least one more in stock. Going to the range early tomorrow!

So, go back to Cabelas and show them their ad where they take the cost of the Take Down to $319.99 saving $30 and ask for that same discount. I want one too. Good luck with your Take Down.

I picked one up yesterday from the Academy in Lewisville for $319.
Great little gun. I can't wait to shoot it.
What do y'all recommend for a trigger upgrade on this?

Went to the range this morning with my new TD and got it down to minute of barn...

71 year old eyes can't see the iron sights.
Any recommendations on a good plinking scope?

Shoot_First, I have put a few of the 10/22's together and have used them for appleseed shooting. The best scope that we have found for them at a reasonable price is the BSA Sweet 22. I put in a link below from Amazon so you can see which model we use. The one item we had to add was an extended mounting rail to get the proper eye relief for our old eyes and move the scope away a bit further.

Salty1... I had selected the same one as the best option and you have just confirmed it. Thanks much! Dave
