Farewell
Posted on August 11, 2012

Greetings all,

We are the sons of Popgun, affectionately known as Butch to most here in the real world. It is with much sadness we must share with you his sudden passing on the morning of Tuesday, July 31st 2012.

The past few weeks have been difficult as anyone would understand. In dealing with our loss we did not want to forget about all those whom dad touched with his writing, both in life and through his blogs.

Several bloggers in particular were very influential on him. We don’t know how many posts were forwarded to us with the comment, “They said it better than I could.” Special thanks to you Bayou Renaissance Man, View From the Porch, John Lott, and Lawdog.

We were always very proud of him for freely sharing his love of life and country with us (and anyone else within earshot). We wanted to let you know how much he appreciated his readers. We would love to know of any notable posts or conversations with Dad that left an impression on you. Please share in the comments section and we will publish them as we can.

Again, thanks so much for being a part of Popgun’s world. We lost a good one.

Warm Regards,

The Sons of Gun

If Popgun sounds familiar ... He's the guy who invited an anti-gun guy and his wife to the range to go shooting one afternoon ...

Dr. Bill Holda had another interview on TV
Dr. Holda was against it – and now he’s for it.

Dr Holda started off against campus carry. even blamed Luby's massacre on it, by the time Popgun finished and we got him back on TV and in front of the hearings

Dr. Holda is talking about so-called "PRIVATE" colleges getting 300 million a year in grants so why are they "Private" and allowed to opt out?

Popgun posted about lots of issues, but I got to know/correspond with him because of Bill Holda, so that's what I credit him for the most.

New Shooters – Dr. William Holda and his wife

Today, I took Dr. William (Bill) Holda and his wife Scotti to the range for the first time. Dr. Holda is the president of Kilgore College. These folks had never held or shot any handgun.

Several months ago, Dr. Holda discussed his views regarding concealed carry on campus, in an interview on TV. He had apparently picked up a lot of misinformation regarding the Luby’s massacre at Killeen, Texas, and offended a great many gun-loving people, including me, by what he said about it. None of us like for misinformation or falsehoods to be used in ways detrimental to our second amendment rights.

Dr. Holda’s daughter texted him while he was at the hearing to tell him his CHL had arrived in the mail today (16 Mar).

Popgun was a teacher/educator to a college President :tiphat:

that is impressive work. Some college Dean's are so arrogant they would never change like that. Sorry you guys lost your friend.

Yep!

Thoughts for Popguns family, and I'm very thankful for the work he did for the pro gun community by reaching out like that. :tiphat:

I remember the story also, and recall being impressed with Dr. Holda's intellectual honesty. Godspeed, Popgun.
