Usually Not This Quick....

You know how after an occurance, on the way home, you think of what you should have said? Too late then.

A couple of the grandkids were over, and my wife asked them what they really wanted for desert after dinner.
They both said 'Apple Pie', one of their favorites. She answered that she didn't have enough apples in the house, at which time their faces fell.

Me, being the helpful type, said that I would make a quick trip to HEB, and was there anything else she needed. She replied that seven or eight large Granny Smiths and a can of Eagle Brand milk was all she could think of. Off to the rescue....

I pushed my cart to the produce section and looked over a few bags of prepackaged apples. They seemed to be too small and not uniform in color. I looked further down, and there was a bin of large loose ones. I pulled the cart along, snugged it up to the counter to clear the aisle, stpped away a short distance to get a plastic bag and started selecting a few apples. A rather large woman entered the aisle talking very loudly on her cell phone, pushing her empty cart with one hand. With no items in her cart, it was difficult to control and she slammed her cart into mine, pushing mine into my side.

Edited out language. please read the rules on profanity.

"Sorry, my standards have never been that low". She quickly grabbed her cart and turned the corner.

I figure this hurt her in more than one level, and for once I had what I thought was a decent comeback at the right time.

The pie was wonderful, as usual. Her home made crust is the best I have ever eaten.

I have not had a store-bought crust in about 20 years.

I looked up, said "Maybe hang up and drive". She immediately stopped, cocked her hip up, put her other hand on it, and said xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in a loud voice.

more inappropriate conversation. She quickly grabbed her cart and turned the corner.

OK, I'm going to be the unpopular one here..... What you did was not right. Neither was she, but you descended to her level.....and you escalated the situation.

A simple "no thanks," or "hey, you're the one who ran into me" would have been sufficient response. And remember, we have a rule here about posting of profanity.
This is a "G" rated "family" forum, so please keep this in mind when choosing the subject matter of your post, as well as the language you choose. Additional specific rules are as follows:

TexasCHLforum Rules:

1. No profanity, pseudo-profanity, or abbreviated profanity. If you are in doubt about a word, don't use it. Any profanity substitute that gets the profane message across is prohibited!

Not to steal your thread, but it reminds me of a shopping cart issue I had a couple of years ago. I was at Lowe’s and had picked up a few items that I needed. I stepped across an isle to pick up another item. When I turned around a woman had taken my stuff out of my cart and was heading away. I said “hey that’s my cart”. She just stuck her nose up and quickened her departure. I had brought the cart in from the parking lot. That was the last time I pushed one from the lot into the store.

I'm unable to actually give you the French for it, but the French have a saying
that translates to English as "stairway wit".

Stairway wit is the funny retort that you could have used at the party, but don't
think of until you are heading down the stairs to go home. <Too late>.
