No, not Muslims, but a secular religion --environmentalism-- unconstrained by logic, truth, common sense, empathy, or morality.
The authors recommend governments undertake five actions immediately if we are to have any hope of delaying or minimizing a planetary-state-shift. Arne Mooers, an SFU biodiversity professor and a co-author of this study, summarizes them as follows.

Society globally has to collectively decide that we need to drastically lower our population very quickly. More of us need to move to optimal areas at higher density and let parts of the planet recover. Folks like us have to be forced to be materially poorer, at least in the short term. We also need to invest a lot more in creating technologies to produce and distribute food without eating up more land and wild species. It’s a very tall order.”
Our "betters," after murdering a few billion of us or so (that's the only way to immediately reduce the population), want to herd the rest of us into ghettos. These "intellectuals" are burning with envy for what Stalin and Mao were able to "accomplish." With such ambitious plans for our demise it's no wonder they are desperate to disarm us.

VMI, I am convinced that there is a significant segment of the political left that wants to perfectly "socialize" the world's population into cities that would be like hives, and the humans would be like drone ants or bees, interchangeable units to toil for the upper echelons, who of course would have things better because they would have the difficult task of "guiding" humanity and keeping it all running...and the rest of the earth would be their giant park...its a dark future, indeed, and it ain't "greedy conservatives" who would make it so...but indeed, it would be those "greenies" just like what you posted above.

It would be nice if they would practice what they preach and quit reproducing.

I don't know what was worse, the article or the comments to the article. Where do these people come from? :rolll

I think the comments, because nuts aren't really dangerous until they acquire followers.

VMI, can you please explain to me what the phrase "total energy budget" from the article means? I admit to being a dumb hick mechanic, so I'm just wondering how they measure such a thing...

Earth’s accelerating loss of biodiversity, its climate's increasingly extreme fluctuations, its ecosystems’ growing connectedness and its radically changing total energy budget are precursors to reaching a planetary state threshold or tipping point.
The entire paragraph is nothing more than nonsense. Big words strong together with no real meaning. IMHO.

JJVP says it's nonsense and I tend to agree....though I'd say it's sort of a crafty nonsense --intended to suggest something serious and scary without actually saying anything specific enough to be refuted. It's on the order of saying that water is a "precursor" in the manufacturer of WMDs.

I figured it was just a bunch of flim-flam, but never hurts to ask, just in case they came up with something new to impress the natives with...

The FBI lists some of the top environmental and animal rights organizations as ELF and ALF as major domestic terrorist threats http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2008/ju ... ror_063008" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. These radical types are no different IMO.

People who take take their (christian) faith seriously usually do not advocate for mass murder. In fact classical christianity--that which was practiced for about 1950 years says that children are a blessing and are to be desired. Live as you like, it makes no difference to me. But these guys (crazy earth worshippers) seem to want WW3 to cull the herd. Which is immoral and does effect me.
