Don't trust your coffee pot.

This happened in my kitchen this morning. Glad I was awake and paying attention. Marks on the counter top were made by molten metal dropping out of the bottom of the heating element. I ended up having to put out small fires inside and then outside after I threw the device out into the yard.
edit: I'd say a severe failure of a thermostat.

Now you have an excuse to move up and get one of these:
Breville BKC700XL Gourmet Single-Serve Coffeemaker with Iced-Beverage Function.

Sure -- It was in the pot sitting the sink though some of it was used to put out fire... :mad5  ;-)

Very surprising. Also, that it didn't blow a breaker or that a thermal snap switch didn't cut the circuit...glad you were able to get it put out, though.

The left side looks OK still...glad it wasn't more serious!

That is a serious liability issue if they have defective thermostats that allow that to happen. I would contact the manufacturer about it and send them photos. If it ruined your counter-top they may be willing to pay for a replacement. I had a almost brand new refrigerator leak where the ice maker valve connects and Whirlpool paid to have my wood floor replaced.

If you value your coffee the way I do you might be able to get some compensation for mental anguish at not having a sufficient amount of joe because of the massive mechanical/electrical failure and the gross negligemce of the manufacturer.

That's what I would have expected but the current through the power cord was not even high enough to to warm it up so the circuit breaker didn't react. But it got hot enough to melt the pot metal in the heating area and ignite the plastic housing.

That is in the works. They have already responded with an email saying they will send a shipping label to send the device to them for evaluation. Of course no other promises, but it's a reasonable start.

I'm only a mile from work and they have coffee available all day long... I took advantage of it.

Reviving this old thread to say that the manufacturer came through big time. Last Tuesday I came home to find a new $119.00 coffee maker on my front porch and Friday we got a check for the full amount of our insurance deductible. The new counter top has been on order for more than a week. Between the two the damage is nearly fully covered. It's a lot more than I originally had hopes for. I'm sending a big thanks to the manufacturer. :thewave :thumbs2:

I love it when the manufacturer actually comes through. Sadly it is more an exception than a rule.

What brand is it? I'm not a coffee drinker but I'd give the nod to other appliances made by them if I had to decide between them and a competitor.

I guess it is a good thing that I never touch the stuff.

:iagree: That kind of Customer Service should be recognized...as should the other kind.

Excellent!

Having just poured my second cup of double strength office brew I am glad to hear of your good fortune.

Last Wednesday the coffee service reposessed all of our stuff because we owed $2500.00 worth of cofee charges. My admin assistrant's American Express did not go through because of a wrong address on the coffee guy's part.

I went in for my afternoon brew and everything was gone. :mad5 :mad5 :cryin :cryin

She straightened everything out and all was good but we are switching vendors to one that supplies Community Coffee.
