Adoption

Reading about it online is, well, overwhelming. There seem to be 1000 different ways, opinions, and places to go.

My wife and I are looking in to adoption (very early phase, have been talking about it for a few months, only getting serious now). Is anyone a parent of an adopted child? Can you give any clarity to the process, or is it really as complicated as it seems? You would think something like this would be made as easy as possible for folks who check out and are qualified. :confused5

Are there any good resources or places to reach out to? I feel lost on this one...

God bless y'all!! I'm adopted and very glad I was given a shot at life! I don't have any pointers though, doubt my parent do either, it was 41 years ago...and from a foreign country as well (Chicago) :biggrinjester: !

Have you guys considered foster care? We have some dear friends that began that way and are currently in the process of adopting one of their foster children. Either way this is a special calling and a wonderful selfless act on y'alls part! Best wishes to you and your wife!

there's alot of different ways and groups, both of my best friends have gone through it....both overseas....China and Cambodia. Alot things depend on your job, ie. are you in a highly classified job?....if you are you can still adopt, but unfortunately it can, and probably will, affect your process if you choose to adopt foreign (work with someone who understand those complications) One of my friends almost lost a daughter because of said complications....
feel free to ask specific questions, I'll pass on questions and answers for you.

This is a video of my baby sister's adoption. My parents adopted her in 2006. I love my baby sister to death, we are TWENTY YEARS apart!

I am so glad my parents adopted she is growing up to be an amazing person. I am still bummed I couldn't go with them to China

Sorry, I can't help with any details or offer any practical advice, but you are doing something that is truly great. Not only for the child, but for yourself, your family and humankind. :clapping:

We have adopted children. Please take my advice - learn all you can about Reactive Attachment Disorder (aka, RAD). It is a common disorder in adopted or foster children.
