The above link is to an 8 minute, 30 second CCTV video from a convenience store
in Manaus, Amazonia, Brazil. Most of the action I'll discuss takes place in the first 60 seconds of the video.

An offduty Brazilian LEO, clad in the navy blue T-shirt with the white oval on the back, is shopping in a C-store.
2 robbers pull up on the sidewalk on a motorcycle. One BG, armed with a handgun, starts to enter the store and
pushes the LEO (in civvies) and another customer back into the store.

The BG announces the robbery and goes behind the counter. At this point the LEO draws, approaches the BG very
closely, and appears to fire 1 round straight into the BG's chest from about 12 inches away. This looks like it would
be an incapacitating and/or kill shot. It would appear that the BG was shot either in the heart or lungs. Guess again!

The LEO then steps away from the counter and fires 2 shots at the BG still on the bike. But in turning his back on the
BG he just shot, he doesn't realize that his bullet had not ended the threat. The BG he shot first runs out of the store
and shoots the LEO in the back.

The LEO appears to fire more rounds, but in the end, both of the BG's + the LEO died of their wounds.
It really seems like the LEO's shooting of the 1st BG should have ended the threat, but it did not.

Lessons learned here:
1. Double/triple tap the 1st threat.
2. Keep your eyes on the 1st threat (it's unknown whether the guy on the bike also had a gun).

Although he is LEO, he could just as conceivably be an armed citizen. There are many times people come to these forums and ask if they should intervene if they are in the middle of a convenient store robbery. Responses often include the term "batman license". ;-)

Here is a graphic reminder that getting involved in the chaos implicit in such an event can very well cost the well-meaning armed citizen his/her life.

Interesting video. I shamelessly cross-posted.

That was chilling. Watching him lose consciousness was just awful. What a hero. I don't fault him at all for acting. He must have felt the need to take down the getaway driver, he just turned too quick. If he had children, I hope they all grow up knowing he died to keep them and others safe from those who prey upon us all.

God rest his soul.

I think his shot went low into the belly of the BG. the far across the street vid seems to show large amounts of blood from him as he starts his run away, and then the GG fires one last shot and he goes down.

My grandpappy always told me never to leave a live enemy behind me. Three shots wouldn't have taken that much more time and the motorcycle driver might have reacted and gotten away, but the BG would not have been able to react.

20/20 hindsight and not one of us can say what we would actually do in the same circumstance.

If it was a CHL here, the CHL should not go after the BG on the bike. He isn't posing any threat. If the CHL doesn't go after the BG on the bike, he might be in position to recognize the remaining threat from the BG in the store.

You also need to be careful about putting additional shots into a BG on the ground. The pharmacist in OK comes to mind.

That BG fired after he was down, but I would have had three shots in him before he got all the way to the deck.
