How do they stop the mice and other rodents from leaving?

Ahem, my terriers have caught way more mice and rats than all the cats I've owned.

Don't feed the cats so much.
Hmm... I meant that as a joke, but now I'm wondering if there's a food level that's high enough to keep a house cat healthy, but low enough that they'll still hunt rodents.

Relax, Janet Napolitano is in charge of securing the perimenter...

I think it depends on the cat. I have a cat that loves to stalk and hunt no matter how much she is fed.

Yeah, I guess the cat's personality would kinda
have to play a large role. We adopted a stray once who could clearly catch at least insects or something since she hadn't starved to death, but for the first few years she'd get spooked if she caught me or my dad just looking at her. I can't imagine that cat really hunting anything (she would vigorously defend her food bowl from the dog, though).
