New resident requirements?

Hi All,
My son has moved here from California a month ago and is wanting to apply for a CHL.
I have looked in vain for residency requirements as to how long he needs to live here before applying.
Seems like it's 60 or 90 days---anyone know?
He has already got his TDL.
TIA!
Colin

There may be caveats to this I don't know about, but here's what I found when I searched the regs:
GC §411.172. ELIGIBILITY. (a) A person is eligible for a license to
carry a concealed handgun if the person:
(1) is a legal resident of this state for the six-month period preceding
the date of application under this subchapter or is otherwise eligible for a
license under Section 411.173(a);

The 6-month waiting period no longer exists. Once you establish residency you can apply. You can actually take your class before you become a resident, and then submit the paperwork afterward. In his case, he should go ahead and apply and take the class ASAP.

GC §411.173. NONRESIDENT LICENSE. (a) The department by rule shall establish a procedure for a person who meets the eligibility requirements of this subchapter other than the residency requirement established by Section 411.172(a)(1) to obtain a license under this subchapter if the person is a legal resident of another state or if the person relocates to this state with the intent to establish residency in this state.

Having his Texas Driver's License makes it easy

That's true and they got rid of the six month waiting period when they started issuing nonresident licenses. It would make no sense to allow someone to apply the Friday before they move to Texas but not allow them to apply the Monday after.

I moved here in late July and took the class first week of September.
I got my Texas DL ASAP and had zero issues getting my CHL with only 6 weeks of residency.
I've been carrying as much as possible for 2 years now...
I was also a Kalifornia refugee...

Yet another person from other states (NV & CA). I moved here. Got a DL week one. By week four I was taking my CHL class. By week eight I had my CHL. I'm very happy to be a resident of Texas.

Ah! I missed the sign on my way in. Thats why it took me 3 years to get my CHL and buy a gun after moving here. No wonder I was always getting strange looks.
