Woman is fleeing from a BG, drives to a school and calls 911. The police search her car and find a gun. She has a CHL. Was arrested for having a gun on school campus. What is wrong with these people? (police not her)

Are you sure that NC's CHL program meets the federal requirements to bypass the GFSZ?

NC law does not allow a CHL to carry on school property and it is a Class 1 Felony if you do. GFSZ does not even matter.

That might be the case, but that is not the point. She was fleeing from someone and searched for refuge at the school. It was not like she wanted to go to the school armed. I also wonder why the police felt the need to search her car.

I wonder why she let them...

Probably because they asked -- and she said yes. Just guessing.

Wow... I'm glad in TX that the parking lot (especially in your vehicle) is not considered "On Campus"

Her lawyer should bring up that she was chased there and only entered the campus in fear for her life.

This development is not suprising given its from North Carolina.
Remember this is the state where the Governor declared that "elections should be suspended" and they use a 'disaster' cause to disarm folks and confiscate their weapons.
I was born and lived there for 30 years, but I got to Texas as soon as I could.....
The worse-than-the-good-ol'-boy-system is alive and well in NC and common sense is not so common.
If I didn't have to get gas there on my way to Virginia, I wouldn't stop - not even for a toothpick and water and I don't spend any money there unless I absolutely have to.

NC is not really very gun friendly. Their CHL laws are pretty strict.
In the case of someone 'following' her, maybe her story didn't sound quite believable enough. Many times the officer will make the arrest and let the DA determine if he has enough of a case to justify the charge. They can always drop it.

I never thought of something like this. So if I'm pursued by a gang of cutthroats, I need to avoid calling 911 from a Post Office property or any other Federal property including any Corps of Engineers land. I need to read all the signs on any door I am running through too. They would not need to search my car to find my truck gun. They would find one or more on me with reloads. Ridiculous, but food for thought.

What do you think would happen if you had a gun on your hip and ran into a courthouse to escape someone you thought was following you?

That might be the case, but that is not the point. She carried a gun where it's a
FELONY to carry in North Carolina. The law doesn't have the exception for refugees, but she can tell it to the judge and hope for mercy from the court.

It is on campus. It's just not in a building.

She probably mentioned that she had one, but would have rather not used it. Or, when asked for ID presented her DL and CHL, if that's what it's called in NC, which led to the next obvious question from the LEO.
