I have fired over a 1000 rds with mine and no problems. Well balanced and very accurate weapon. I use it as my primary carry now instead of my S&W 9mm. Lighter, easier to conceal and comfortable fit in my paddle holster.

I have 1, I almost sold it, then I got a finger extension magazine floor plate (I found 2 sizes) and changed to Advantage Tactical Sights and I really really like this gun I wear it around the house, in the yard and carry as one of the back up guns to my Glock 26

I put a Pierce grip extention on mine. Makes a world of difference.

I carry these EXTRA LARGE ones
extra long ones

LARGE HAND grip extension (large enough even for people with 6 fingers on each hand)
"Too small" problem solved
other photos of mine (with Advantage Tactical sights too - easy to install yourself)

and the
small grip extension by Pierce grips, for people with 5 large fingers

Pearce Grip Extension Taurus 709, 740 Polymer Black PG709
Our Low Price:
$6.28

I didn't try the Pierce, but they are probably enough, these big ones I got above are
more than enough grip, but I do really really like them. I could sand off a bit and still have plenty.
None add to capacity yet, though Taurus promised/originally advertised ...

Great CCH pistol. I have the 709 & 740 each with 4-mags and Pierce extensions - both have been very reliable for daily carry, IWB or OWB. I swap monthly between the two. 740 has a fairly sharp recoil compared to the 709, but I shoot it better.

I picked one from Academy for $299... in black. I really like the size, the thickness (compared to my G26) and some of the features, such as the "memory marks" for thumb and index fingers. Should make a really nice CCW.
Out of the box it was quite greasy... so I gave it a good cleaning and took it to the range. Loading it was a bit hard, even with a loader. First mag emptied fine with no problems, on the second mag I got a failure-to-extract, but was hard to clear: the empty case was in the barrel, the next bullet was trying to feed thru the ramp and the magazine wouldn't release. One guy at the range helped me clear it, but we couldn't get the empty case out (didn't have something long enough to push it back).
I think the issue may be with the magazine, not feeding the next round smoothly... so looks like it may take a while to break in.

Clean it again, flush around the extractor with an aerosol solvent OR liquid followed by compressed air, and clean the firing pin and channel. The grease they use is hard to get out and it is EVERYWHERE. I had a couple of similar problems that went away after cleaning around the extractor and a second good cleaning. I picked up a 638 for my wife that was even worse on the grease content.

Thanks for the advise, Waco1959... I gave it a good cleaning again this evening and headed back to the range. Bought some Federal white box 115gr and it worked much better, at least no failures today. I couldn't believe how filthy it was after just 50 rounds... but gave it a good scrubbing and applied Hoppe's Elite gun cleaner aerosol. The magazine is still a bit stiff, so cleaned and lubed that as well.
I think the issue could be the ammo I was using... I had some Freedom Munition's Blaster, which are factory reloads. I'll stick with Federal white box for now, since it seems to like that, and give it a few hundred rounds before trying FM again...
Overall, looks and feels quite nice... if/when it fires reliably it will become my EDC.

This was my wife's primary carry for the past year or two, until she was upgraded to a M&P9C.
She liked it, had no problems with it, and no FTE/FTF problems at all. For the price, it's a great pistol and seems to have a nice trigger pull to it (which is an abnormality for Taurus).

Freedom Blaster is my primary range ammo. I've run it through the 709 and S&W SW9VE with no problems except the 709 before I got it clean. At this point I've run a couple of hundred rounds through the 709. Once I hit 400 (hopefully this weekend) and find a holster I like it will be my EDC loaded with Cor-Bon 115 +P DPX.
I also use the .380 Blaster in my TCP and a Hi Point CF380. I had several FTF with the CF380 but it turned out to be a mag issue.

I've found that "my" 709 does not like +P ammo.

for carry and home defense, I like Hornady's Critical Defense... I hope this 709 likes it
