Hello, I have a question and after a quick search, i did not see this addressed. please let me know where if it has been. My son's high school has a 30.06 sign on a post at the entrance of the parkinglot. Does this overrule our ability to carry into the lot to drop him off, etc?
Thanks!

No.
A licensee with a Texas CHL can carry in his/her car in a school parking lot.
Can not enter a building or portion of a building, enter a bus or attend school sponsored activity like band practice in the parking lot, but in the car is perfectly fine if you have a Texas CHL.

As RPB noted in a link, only private schools can make parking lots off-limits, not public schools.

ok, thanks. I know the law stating the parking lot, property, etc. It just threw me when they had the sign posted at the entrance of their lot.

Maybe they are using that to "intimidate" employees. Probably too strong a word, but its why I put it in quotes. Or maybe they are simply ignorant of the definitions of property and premises in regards to the law.

Or maybe it was posted before the 30.06 change where governemnt entitiies were exempted from the statute and they haven't taken them down.

I have been to the Montgomery Campuses many times two or three years ago and I remember signs saying something like "prosecuted to the fullest extent of state and federal law etc etc. I never saw a 30.06 sign but like I said it has been 3 years since I was there. I know the Montgomery employees have it in their contract that they can't have it on school property unless it has changed. Meaning the teachers can't have it in their car.
I carried their in the parking lot being that I was not an employee of MISD but they are just using scare tactics for the misinformed. If you have a chl you are fine just leave it in your car!
