Looks like I may be working in OH for a 6-9 months. I only have tx chl currently..... At a quick glance it seems UT would be the logical permit to get, to cover me in OH. Is there a better choice anyone can think of?

I have looked at Florida and Virginia for covering OH.
But I have yet to actually move forward with that, as I normally would not have a need to be in OH, in a time where I would have a gun with me.

How much time do you have before you are going?

Downside to Utah is you have to take the Utah training course. Upside is the very cheap renewals.

VA only gets you OH. If you get either FL or UT, you also get the state of Washington.

FWIW, FL is expensive (IMO) to maintain... IIRC, my last renewal was about $150.
I believe VA is $100 and relatively easy. Your TX CHL-100 should be sufficient to satisfy VA training requirements.
UT is $61 for the permit, but you have to take a UT-specific class that will run at least $51.

I agree FL is too expensive now there are other options. If you can find a cheap and convenient Utah class, that's a good option because you plan to keep your Texas CHL and Utah renewals are low cost with no renewal class. I hear Virginia is easy and the price isn't bad (even at double the resident cost) if you have a copy of your CHL-100 or other training they accept. But if someone has to pay for a class to get proof of training, Utah jumps ahead of Virginia in my book, unless somebody can't or won't get a Texas CHL.

Some of the Cabellas have utah classes you might try Gun Fun in Denton they offer Utah permits try this link.......... caviat you must have a chl in your Home state to get a Utah license

The Arizona permit takes about 60 days and you will have coverage in Ohio. I requested forms from Arizona, filled out, got finger prints from my local PD and mailed back.

Our moderator—Crossfire—owns Crossfire Training at Cabellas in Fort Worth. They teach the Utah class. I got mine there.

Incorrect.

An Arizona non-resident permit is not valid in Ohio.

An Arizona resident permit is honored, but not a non-resident permit.

I stand corrected. The AZ permit does not specify resident or non-resident, so there was my confusion.

*Ohio Honors Non-Resident Permits/Licenses from all the states they honor except for Arizona. The Agreement specifically states AZ resident only. OH AG confirmed this.

Thanks for the info- sounds like UT is my best option. I'm not sure on the timing yet but worst case, I'll have to begin my stint w/o the UT CHL.

I did plan on taking the class from Crossfire, just need to get signed up. (assuming I get selected to go)

From what I understand from some of my CCW buddies in Ohio any "No Gun" sign olds weight.

Flechero, the UT permit was my choice when I faced this decision. There are plenty of instructors available in Texas. Where are you located? I can recommend an instructor in the north Austin area.

That is accurate. However, Ohio also requires the sign be posted in a conspicuous location and the CHL knowingly trespass.

I was just in Cleveland last weekend and noticed quite a few gun buster signs. I only have Texas permit so I wasn't carrying but there sure seemed to be a ton of those signs.
