CHL possible for foreign student?

Hi guys,

I've been living in texas for about 3 years now going to Baylor on a F1 non-immigrant student visa. I'm a german citizen. I got my hunters license a few months back and was told that I would be able to purchase guns here. Is it also possible for me to get my CHL? I've looked at form CHL-40 which states:
If a Non-Immigrant Alien, an alien in the United States in a non-immigrant status, please provide a U.S. Visa, I-94 Arrival/Departure Record and a hunting License. The definition of a non-immigrant alien includes, in large part, persons traveling temporarily in the United States for pleasure or business, persons studying in the United States who maintain a residence abroad, and certain foreign workers. This does not include permanent resident aliens.
So all I need is my visa, my I-94, and the hunting license?

Sorry if this is another one of those posts.
Thanks a lot

thank you guys for the warm welcome.

AustinBoy I looked at your post and it seems like we have come to the same conclusion - no one really knows. I'm registered for a class on Sunday so I'll try to give the instructor a call sometime today and ask. I feel like it should be possible considering the form is indeed called "CHL"- 40, but the wording is quite confusing.

Whatever happens, I will report back here and hopefully we can finally clear up all the confusion.

on another note, has anyone here had any experience with Big Iron in Waco?

It's my understanding that your citizenship status (as long as you're here legally) has no bearing on whether or not it's legal for you to get a CHL.

Go to page 4 of the PDF at this link. If you've been a legal resident for 6 months and don't have any of these other restrictions, you should be able to. I work with a guy from China who has been here for at least 6 years on a green card status and he got his CHL about a year ago - or so he says.

FYI, Green Card status is a whole different thing.

:iagree: See item #2 for a green card. See item #4 for the OP with a student visa. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetfo ... CHL-40.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
