Is this the correct sub-forum for eligibility ?

Without going into the tedium of specifics, I am a 53 year old honorably discharged vet with no priors and I was cited (received a TICKET) for possession of paraphenalia, in Austin, Tx., over two years ago. I am drug and alchohol free and could have passed ANY SORT of drug test at the time of citation and at the time of trial ... I failed to attain legal counsel because I knew I was innocent but the AUSTIN COMMUNITY COURT (Not Municipal Court) judge refused to test me and just found me guilty and fined me ~$200 which I promptly paid ... I had a daughter in HS, at that time ... "A" student ... No telling where the baggy+residue came from.

Anyway .. It seems from what I have read, on sketchier forums, thus far, that this Class "C" infraction should not disqualify my application and subsequentr approval for a CHL, at this time.

I really do not wish to go through the expense and the time of training and application if there is any significant chance of denial, based on the stated infraction. Any authoritative answers or insights would be very much appreciated.

I hope this was the correct sub-forum , in which to ask this question. Thankyou, in advance, for your endurance and your thoughtful respons(es).

Welcome to the forum.

As far as I know, the only single class C misdemeanor that can disqualify a person from a CHL is disorderly conduct (Penal Code Chapter 42).

I say "single" because it's possible for a person to have a series of class C offenses related to drugs or alcohol that would be a disqualification. I never actually heard of that happening. People with real drug problems usually get into deeper trouble like DUI.

GREAT ! Thanks for the "ruling". I will be travelling the Gulf Coast, in the Spring and Summer of 2013, fishing and camping in remote areas ... I just wanted to get a PF-9 and a CHL for a little peace of mind.

You are (all) very much appreciated. Again ... Thankyou.

I will certainly maintain a my membership and consult my seniors, here, as I progress toward my initial license ... If I should learn enough to actually provide useful and authoritative assistance, to others, I most certainly will take the time to do so. I want to do "all this" (CHL in practice) in the FULL spirit of resposible citizenship and I will certainly rely upon this forum for any guidance or information which may advance me (and others) to that end. I can already tell you that I have no expectaion that it should ever be necessary for ME to deploy any firearm for any non-sporting purpose. Drama not good !

I will have more questions regarding process ... Most likely, when the year is new.

Again, thanks, Folks. I am very fortunate to have reliable and knowledgable support from this community.

I don't think those are mutually excusive but any way you slice it I don't think it affects your eligibity.

TexVet - Welcome - I don't know if there is any down there (Gulf Coast) but just make sure you are not on ACOE property while carrying.
