Don't take all this as absolute, but a few months ago I was looking for a Rem 1100 for my daughter to buy for her husband and what I could gather is the Sporting Model is a traditional glossy stock, gloss blue version. What I was used to calling a Model 1100 is now anything from a synthetic stocked competition, classic trap and two different Sporting model shotguns, as well as a Tac model. There is no difference in the actions that I am aware of, though I think there have been some modifications of the 1100 through the years. The Remington website will probably worth visiting for more details. Remington pushes the Versa max and the 11-87 which replaced the 1100.AustinBoy wrote:My bad. Sporting.
I have a Remington 1100 12 guage. All it says on it is "Remington 1100".
My dad has a Remington 1100 20 guage that clearly says right on it " Remington 1100 Sporting".
(I am going from memory, I really thought it said Sport not Sporting. Assuming my memory is failing)

You're welcome. I assume you mean the 1100 is about 20 yeras old??? I don't think the Sporting designation is that old but I'll see what I can find. Remington dated their guns with codes on the left side of the barrel near the receiver, but with shotguns it may not be reliable as the barrels can be changed. After 1968 (not 1996 or 1997) Remington used a prefix to date the SG's and a letter suffix designated gauge and/or frame size. Serial number suufix should be V for 12 ga NOT X. Hope it helps. They are great shooting guns.AustinBoy wrote:Thanks Puma.
I should also mention these guns are about 20 years old. Hence the difficulty in finding any info.

Could well be. According to Blue Book the 11-87 Premier was made from 1987-2006.AustinBoy wrote:I just emailed my dad and he swears it is an 11-87 Premier.
Trying to get a picture and the serial number.
