8 3/8" 14-3

Ok, so I can't stop buying S&W's, but I DID need a centerfire to shoot silhouette matches in the Open Sights class.

I think this one should be able to reach out to 50 yds.

I mean, that's a good excuse isn't it?

Should be in my hands within a week.

Help me with the year, 1967?

Here are the first pics I've seen of it!

Beautiful K Frame Doc.
I think 3K31280 - 5K6616 K Frames were born in 1972.

1967 carried K715997 - K779162 serial numbers.

A good year indeed.
I always thought of you as a Colt man until I saw a couple of your K-22's on another forum. Impressive.
Your pics of this K-38 Target got the best of my curiosity so I looked it up in the S&W Catalog.

1957 - stamping of model number
1959 - dash1, intro 8-3/8" barrel
1961 - dash2
1967 - dash3 and relocation of rear leaf screw
1968 - Begin D serial prefix, delete diamond insert grips (I can't find any M14's with a D prefix in the catalog)
1977 - dash4. change to put gas ring from yoke to cylinder
1999 - discontinued

Have fun. Let us know how it does at the range.

Tregs.

STOP IT! You're killing me!
Love the classic diamond magnas on that gun by the way. Timeless.
