The story is about a professor at NYU who assigned a class to "plan a terrorist attack" in a 15-page paper. Obviously, some NY law enforcement groups aren't happy about the way the assignment was framed.

". . . Some of the most notorious terrorists, including Anwar al-Awlaki, got their start on American campuses. It looks like after the CIA killed al-Awlaki, NYU is helping to produce successors," said an outraged law-enforcement expert on terrorism.

Awlaki was the Al Qaeda propagandist who studied at Colorado State University and later mentored three 9/11 hijackers, Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan and "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Adbulmutallab.

That leads us to this gem, which is the reporter's, not the LEO's statement:

He was blasted to hell in Yemen last year in a CIA drone strike.

Comrade, they aren't terrorists, they are freedom fighters against imperialists...at least, I'd bet that's what the professor thinks.

seems like a great way to get some new CIA agents for the think tank. when 9/11 first happened they were all over the place getting authors and moms and such trying to come up with creative people to come up with other ways "they" might try to hit us again. So now a prof is making it an assignment and someone is mad about it? this is probably a creative writing assignment for many writing majors

So it would be interesting to turn in a paper that detailed how one was going to identify, target, and kill all the marxist, American-hating, left-wing, traitorous professors . . .

To defeat a terrorist, you like to have someone who think and plan like a one. CSI, anyone?

I agree with your sentiment for our LEOs and intelligence agents. . . but I doubt a professor at NYU has that in mind. I'd bet money the prof is either trying to 1) be provocative or 2) show the students how to see things from everybody's perspective, even the poor, disadvantaged, much-maligned terrorists. They could easily make the "to strengthen or national security awareness" to the curriculum, but if that were there, I doubt they'd have drawn the ire of NYC LEOs.

no I doubt the prof is thinking along those lines, no doubt he's trying to be 'provocative', that's what they do. But still the intellegincia should be thinking with their brains, not their politically correct "hearts"

Some people are jumping to conclusions and labeling this man like the liberals label, and bash gun owners.

Like Beiruty says “To defeat a terrorist, you need to have someone who thinks and plans like one.” Law enforcement should swallow their “outrage” shut up and think. They should ask the professor (with permission from the author) to share some of the more interesting papers with them. But they would have to admit (at least to themselves) they can still learn something.

I have a cousin, who is also a friend, that is a Professor, Baptist Preacher, staunch 2nd Amendment advocate, gun owner and Conservative.
