Helping a co-worker find a bolt action .308.

Given the election outcome, caliber choice will be more important than the platform. .308 is a good choice.

rem 700 in 308 brand new for $503. Wont be any tax on it or shipping. just whatever your FFL charges you. Mine stopped charging me for transfers. Started at $30 went to 20 then 15 then 5 now $0. I dunno what your transfers cost but that is a good deal to me.
Savage makes fine rifles but the 700 has so many options and is used for a reason by so many professionals. For $500 I think there is no finer .308.

I would never recommend the Axis from Savage, although the Savage 10 or Savage 11 are fine choices (the 11 is the 10, but with a scope package deal). A Savage 10 or 11 can be had for under $500 easy...I also just bought a Remington 700 ADL with varmint barrel for $449 at a local big box store that starts with a Cabxxx'x. They had regular 700 ADL packages (with scope and sporter barrel) for $439.
I would recommend the 700 over the cheaper Rem line, and I would also recommend the Model 10/11 from Savage over their cheap line (Axis).

I'm selling a .308 here on the board, it's not entry level but it is a solid shooter. Just add a scope and you're done....
